Precious Reflective Essay
In my treatment plan for Precious I addressed two of her most concerning issues. The first dealt with managing her overall mental and physical health. Precious reported being depressed and experiencing anxiety frequently. After explaining the situations surrounding these symptoms, it appeared that her depression and anxiety were rooted in past traumatic events, her current financial situation, and anxiety for the future. My first treatment goal is for Precious to see me once a week so I can check on her progress, and help her begin to work through her traumatic past. Precious has developed maladaptive coping mechanisms, and is slightly developmentally delayed because of how she was raised. We will work together to catch her up developmentally and process past events of abuse from both of her parents. When meeting with Precious for the first time she explained how much she loved writing at her alternative high school. Since she was having panic attacks in the evenings, I felt that would be a beneficial time for Precious to journal each day. I gave her freedom to write what ever she would like, but she must include 3 good things that happened, or goals completed that day, and list 3 goals for the next

As I was watching the movie I took down short notes, almost as if I was interviewing my client for the first time. I only wrote what would help trigger my memory later, and gave the rest of my attention to my client. As I watched the movie I had a hard time not getting wrapped up in the storyline. I struggled at first seeing beyond the obvious issues in Precious’ life. Being able to see her story first hand helped piece together her life story, but did not let me inside her head as much as I would have wished. Her abuse, dangerous environment, and lack of financial stability were staring me in the face. It was not till after the movie that I began to “diagnose” Precious, and fully process her life
