positive and negative aspect of technology
The World of Technology/Two Sides on the Same Coin
“It has become appallingly obvious that technology has exceeded our humanity,” (Einstein). This notion of technological advances, surpassing human capacity has impacted the way the world functions today. Technology has evolved into this great phenomenon that everyone uses. Whether that’s communicating with a family member, making purchases online, getting to and from school, or just simply killing boredom. It seems that technology has had a positive influence on today’s society. But, on the other hand, many people refuse to think about the negative aspects that come with the use of technology.
Unquestionably, the automobile has changed the way the world functions; something that did not exist centuries ago, now vastly used on a day to day basis. It has helped make life easier, simpler and more comfortable. “Because of technology it has brought distant places closer and simplified information access”. (Oak). This quote explains that, thanks to technology no matter where anyone or anything is in this gigantic world, it is easier to get to places in a timely fashion and easier to retrieve any sort of data someone needs for traveling. But on the contrary, the automobile has polluted the atmosphere; thus, causing global warming. According to, the union of concerned scientists, “in 2006, the U.S. transportation sector produced over half the carbon monoxide, over a third of the nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons in our atmosphere”. But, since technology has been advancing and progressing, in the future this will hopefully be eliminated. In addition to technology and its wonders, communication has also played a large role. Telephones and cell phones have been and continue to be one of the largest ways people communicate throughout the world. Technology has helped decrease the amount of paper products people use today. For instance newspapers, magazines, and catalogs now are online and easier

Computers, telephones, cars, television---all these gadgets and inventions have only just come about within the past century. Being such recent additions to society, people surely survived before their creation; sadly, there are rarely any people today that understand what that was like. Hardly ever are people not on their smartphones anymore, whether they’re texting their friends, looking something up, or using social media. Whatever the reason, people are constantly relying on technology to do something for them nowadays. The author Ray Bradbury emphasizes this in his short stories, “The Pedestrian” ,“The Veldt”, and “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains”, where the main characters rely so heavily on their technologically innovative houses to feed, entertain, and aid them in their daily lives that all the outcomes are anything but positive. Negative consequences like these aren’t fictional like most of the components of Bradbury’s stories, though; scientists have already found many…

Samuel G. Freedman and Maggie Jackson both write magnificent essays about technology and how it has negatively affected society. Although, they both fail to mention that technology is not the reason for lack of education, communication, and expression of our own ideas but that it is the user who abuses the amount of technology used. Technology has been useful in many ways and has only improved society through resources of communication and information regardless of those who use technology in negative ways.…
