Such life and death situations are the subject of some of our most successful movies, including Titanic, One of the biggest box office success of all time. Rose, the movie's glamorous heroine , is in love with Jack, and the two are struggling to stay alive as the ship goes down. In the final scenes of the movie, Jack dies and Rose is faced with the challenge of survival. She can stay in the water and risk the freezing temperatures and the diminishing possibility of rescue, or she can use every remaining bit of strength left in her and summon the lifeboat that is many yards away, looking to pick up those alive in the water. As she sees the lifeboat go by, she finds a small whistle, uses it to call the boat's occupants, and is rescued. Someone else might not have found the strength to go on, weak and exhausted in the freezing water, with a true love lost to such enormous disaster. Rose, however, found the will to survive. The spirit of survival we admire in the heroine of Titanic can help us to endure less glamorous but equally difficult

When the environment dramatically changes, humans are left with a false choice: accept or resist; only one of those options, acceptance, leads to survival. Life is evolutionarily programed for survival. One of the primary tools of survival is adaptation. If the situation one finds oneself in is irreparably difficult, dangerous, or deadly, adapting to the situation is the only way one can hope to survive.…

Survival, as defined in the Oxford English Dictionary, is the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances. In lay man terms, it is how we act and what we do in order to remain constant in our current state or situation. As children grow into teens their desire to explore the “world” around them increases, coincidently, making the need to survive increase. As students reach middle school, their desires to explore and survive are at an all-time high. Granted survival to most teens is not living with difficult circumstances, in which some cases it is, but surviving the socially acceptable behaviors that are defined by their peers. R.J. Palacio, the author of Wonder, illustrates…

In “The Story of Keesh” by Jack London Keesh kills polar bears to survive because he gets little food from the tribe. He does this by using his brains instead of brute force. In the “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel, Pi uses his brains to access food and water. In these two stories Pi and Keesh both use survival skills to survive in their extreme environments.…
