Personal Statement: Better Parks
Better Parks, Better Future Parks are a great part of our society because they build healthy, stable relationships with the environment. They are used for a variety of things, including getting involved with physical activities and being the habitat for so many animals. However, parks often get cluttered by trash or their trails deteriorate, making them look unimpressive. That is why for my ecology action project I am going to volunteer at the local Big Morongo Canyon Preserve on September 30, 2017. I will pick up trash that has been neglected, clean up trails, and complete any other tasks required of me by the guides on September 30th. First, I need to get a waiver form and turn it in before September 29th. I will make sure I have the necessary equipment to complete the project; then I will have my parents drive me to the preserve on National Publics Land Day, September 30th. After I arrive at the preserve, on September 30th, I will verify what tasks are needed of me before I …show more content…
Seeing the natural beauty of the park will make me want to go on more hikes and see the environment more, which will make me closer to nature. I will also be able to know how to help the environment in the future when I am taking a walk or having fun outside. Then I can slowly start making the world a better, cleaner place. My health will improve by this activity because I am able to go outside and be active. Being active helps keep my heart and lungs healthy, while also strengthening my bones and muscles. Healthy living helps my brain release endorphins that give me a natural feeling of well-being. Going on trails and promoting a cleaner atmosphere will make me want to go on more hikes, leading to more activity in the future. By being active and helping the environment I can stay healthy, feel fit, and

National parks definitely have a big significance in American history that is not even a question. What is questioned is just how important national parks are. People like Wallace Stegner, or Ken Burns believe that national parks are America’s best idea; however, people like Clay Jenkinson, director of The Dakota Institute, or Alan Spears, of High County News, would agree that National parks are indeed not the greatest idea of America. Clay Jenkinson directly said, “National parks are not America’s best idea” (The National Parks; America’s Best Idea). Obviously it is a split issue on just how important the National Parks really are but clearly National Parks is not America’s greatest ide.…

I've never been an "outdoors" experience kind of person. Maybe, it's because I'm very sedentary and prefer to stay inside to read and enjoy tranquility. I avoid all types of chaos and crowded places. Nevertheless, my visit to the Camuy River Cave Park (back in 2004) was refreshing and enriching in knowledge, historically, scientifically and spiritually. That experience brought the best out of me, as a human being and a nature lover, by giving the chance of experiencing a whole new level of peace and tranquility.…

It improves intellectual wellness because seeking new experiences and challenges is healthy and encourages you to get outside your comfort zone by participating in scholastic, cultural, and community activities that will help you learn about others and yourself. Spiritual wellness results when you find meaning and purpose in your niche in the community; rather than focusing all your efforts on yourself, you realize there is a bigger world out there that needs your talent and skill and you find that working in a community is very meaningful and worthwhile. Being connected to a community also improves occupational wellness, because if you love what you do, then you are more motivated to achieve even greater work every day and not limit yourself. It improves social wellness because you learn to develop encouraging relationships with peers, create a support network, and perform social roles effectively and comfortably. Emotional wellness is also benefited because you begin to realize that your stresses are not unique to you, and there are people who understand what you are going through which can help ease the stress you are currently dealing with. Physical wellness can be impacted as well, since being involved in a community makes you want to stay healthy and be an active participant, and others’ health habits can influence your own decisions. Two things I learned in implementing my community service project that I may be able to use in the future are that volunteers are a significant part of the community, and that it doesn’t take special skills to work as a volunteer, but it is important to bring your enthusiasm and have an open mind. If I could volunteer with any organization in the world and work for any cause, it would be to work for Best Friends Animal Society, which seeks to end the…

We take for granted the fact that we are young and sometimes think that we will stay that way forever. Where I grew up, there were few hills. Although this was the case, with the encouragement from my mother, I learnt that exercise is always important and therefore I should always make that effort to do so. Though the area was mainly flat and populated, there wasn't a large degree of pollution especially on mornings it became the ideal time to push that exercising drive forward. As a young child, I took early morning power-walks with my mother as a form of exercise. The air we breathe plays an important role in how fit we become especially when exercise is done outdoors. This exercise revitalized me and fortified me to go on through the day.…
