Personal Narrative: Twisted Surgery
As I woke up I felt dizzy. My feet were wrapped in layers of wrap, and I was in loads of pain. “Chanel, wake up.” My mom said as she tapped on my head. “Why do my feet hurt so much?” I asked confusingly. I didn’t know where I was, but I soon realized I was in a hospital room. It was white and small. I saw an IV in me. My mom told me I had had surgery. I broke my toes. After she told me, my toes were crooked anyway so it was convenient. It wasn’t very convenient money wise, because the surgery ended up costing over $14,000, but my insurance ended up paying for it. My parents only had to pay $2,000. I had to use a wheelchair and crutches when I wanted to “walk”. That wasn’t convenient for me. My mom basically had me on house arrest. I …show more content…
I got to let my feet “breathe” for the first time. There were still two pins in my toes. However, at the following appointment something great happened. The appointment after the first, the doctor removed the pins, but I didn’t feel anything. However, after my feet were a little sore and still had holes in them. I only had two pins in in my toe because the other one had been “ripped” out by loose strings in my house. That same day I had the stitches removed and that was a very painful experience. The last one was so deep in I cried after he pulled it out. At my last doctor’s appointment there, he said I cloud now wear close toed shoes. Only if I felt comfortable because my toes were still very sore, and I preferred to wear sandals. For the majority of the summer I could only wear sandals and I hated it. I preferred to wear tennis shoes, because I had mostly only wore tennis shoes. Before, this experience I believed that sitting down and being on your butt all day was very fun, because you don’t have to do anything. This was what I thought was going to be the case but it wasn’t. After this experience, I was very grateful that I could get off my butt. It was very boring and I did not want to go through it

I looked around and I wasn’t in my room anymore, I was in the hospital during my grandpa’s surgery. The waiting room was cold and sterile and the smell of antiseptic was so strong I could taste it. Waves of uneasiness washed over me as if they were trying to drown me. My grandma and my mother were sitting in the room with me and they looked just as scared. I remembered how long my grandpa was in surgery to get his windpipe removed, how I had thought that I wouldn’t make it through the hours he was and that if he didn’t then I wouldn’t make it for much longer afterward.…

In the course of my life, I have had quite a few scars. One physical scar was when I tripped, and landed on a rock, and cut my forehead. After that, they stitched up my leg. They thought about stitching my hand, but they decided not to. While they stitched up my leg I watched and asked questions. At first, the doctor did not want to tell me anything because he did not want to scare me, but my dad told him it was alright. Even my dad was too scared to watch what they were doing to me, but I watched the whole thing. I had a total of 11 stitches; seven stitches were internal and five were external.…

From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. Peterson. Over the next few weeks, I went for treatment which consisted of electrical stimulation therapy, and at least 15 minutes of Active Release Therapy, which wasn’t comfortable, to put it mildly. Although I consistently continued this therapy for two months I was not getting any better. My mom said not to be too disappointed and that we would find another doctor that could help me. We decided to go to an orthopedic specialist at Tulsa Bone and Joint. The doctor there told me that I might have endured a stress fracture and ordered an MRI to confirm his suspicions. While waiting for the results of the scan he suggested that I take a break from dance for a while to see if things would improve. So, I did. I took off four weeks from dance. During this time I became more and more frustrated because my leg pain wasn’t going away. This frustration only…

One of the worst injuries that has ever occurred to me was having my fingers burned by extremely hot water. It was a cold, dark day at 7:31pm, and it was just me, my older brother, Gideon, and my younger brother, Theodore. I was 9 years old, Theodore was 2 years old, and Gideon was 12 years old. Every day I would drink some hot tea, because I tended to be extremely sensitive to the cold. And when I say sensitive, I am talking about that if I was drinking regular temperature water, I would be shivering probably throughout the rest of the night. Gideon was doing homework at the basement, while Theodore was sleeping in my parents’ bedroom. I was making myself some hot tea, when I accidentally poured hot water on my hand for 2 seconds. Now 2 seconds seem like nothing, but when something like…

Adrenaline ran through my veins as I stood up and attempted. Instantly I fell and scraped up my knees. A little scrape on my knee was not going to bring me down. I got back up and tried again. I started going down the road and said to myself, “This isn’t that hard! I’m doing it!” Now this was accomplished because I was going on a straight road with no obstacles. The fun really began when I came across a busy road. I looked both ways and started off. I didn’t realize that going off the sidewalk to the road would be so difficult. I was never taught how to get over the bumps on the end of the sidewalk, so I fell and landed in the road. I dragged myself to the other side because I didn’t know how to get back up and a car was coming right for me.…
