Personal Narrative: Life Is Like A Round Of Golf
Life is like a Round of Golf
I walk out onto the dew filled grass. I can feel the dampness beneath my feet. I can smell the aroma of lilacs blooming around me, the birds chirping gracefully, the rising sun so beautiful, peeking over the vast trees, nothing but the sounds of nature.

Each round of golf is filled with joys and disappointment, as does life. One may feel as if they are on the top of the world, but without warning things can turn around. One may be hitting straight down the fairway every time staying out of trouble then, somehow hit it out of bounds. But each round is a new start, and is unique and you will never play the same round twice, just as in life.
My life represents a golf round because just as in golf, some days I can

THUMP! The ball was hit into deep left, and it had some distance to it. The infield stared as the ball made contact with the bat and rocketed over their heads. They probably should have covered their base or gone out and get the ball from the outfield but they knew that it was all or nothing. The outfield would determine the fate of the game. The left fielder ran and ran. Finally, the ball came down from space and into the Blake Lindsly’s sure handed glove. Out number two. He looked at the pitcher with an expression that said dodged a bullet there. The team erupted into laughter. Even the coach joined in. Sure, the game was intense, but baseball was a fun game and it took plays like that to have fun.…

Whenever I meet someone new, there will come a time where they ask me, what sport do I play. I'd say golf. But why do I play this most unusual sport. Well one of the reasons why I play is because of my main golfer Tiger Woods or in other words my hero. The three points I'll talk about today are: who is he, why him and what he has done to be the best.…

Open, that I’ve never played before? Pure luck some would say! I say mental preparation and visual training. I knew that my tee time was a few weeks away and instead of joyfully waiting for that day to come, I decided to play the Torrey Pines course on EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2014 video game every day until then. I probably played that hole over twenty times in that timeframe. You see, with the dramatic increase in technology, video games have morphed into digital replicas of real-world environments, creating modern virtual reality simulators. With features only previously dreamt about in golf folklore, like real-time course weather and lighting or topographical mapping of the putting green surface. I arrived on the day of my tee time knowing every detail about that course, every hole, every green. If playing the video game for only two weeks gave me that much of a competitive and mental advantage, imagine the possibilities for a professional athlete. This paper will show that even though nothing compensates for real-world experience, professional athletes should incorporate video games or virtual reality simulators into their training programs to gain a competitive…

When I first came to Lake Highland I tried out for the girl’s golf team, but I was not experienced or skilled enough to make it on. This was a devastating moment for me, but I realized that I needed to try harder and work harder to make it on the team the next year. I became much more skilled and was able to make the team with ease. What the failure told me was that if I got knocked down then I would have to work hard to get back up. This lesson was very crucial to me my junior year of high school. During the golf season I severely injured my wrist. This injury put me out of the game for six months. I gained arthritis in my wrist, but I remembered what happened to me in seventh grade and worked hard to regain my skills. I made the team the…

Imagine the smell of freshly cut grass drifting through the air and numbered red flags waving in the breeze. You hear the quiet rumble of a golf cart engine and the sounds of laughter filling the broad land surrounding you. Can you guess the environment you are in? Well surely, a golf course. Although most may not be aware that there is much time and effort added into creating a golf course, Cindi Norton knows first hand that there is extensive amounts of hard work that goes into a project like this. In 1968, Stub and Barbara Baker agreed to purchase 120 acres of cow pasture and forest to be transformed into a golf course with Ralph and Joanne Nichols. According to Cindi, “both families loved to golf.” They would…

The Shared Vision I am currently in the process of crafting includes working for an organization that will challenge me to grow both in knowledge and as a person. Peace Corp is one organization that can give me what I want out of my company and organization and how I am going to get that out of my new organization. At this time I am trying to link my personal vision to the organization’s potential in order to help myself align the organization’s purpose with my own purpose (vision): and to prepare the individual groundwork for creating a shared vision. I am at a crossroads on my career path, where I can either I can decide on my personal vision and try and line up my career with that vision or I can let someone else determine what type of work…

The rain was coming down even faster and harder than yesterday and it was already miserable. I walked to my hole touching my bag which was drenched, hoping it would be a lucky day, but already figured out after the first shot it was bound to be another long one. It took a long forty-five minutes for the first one and a half holes, and all the sudden one of the best things happened. The sirens went off! We all marked our ball and headed to the clubhouse where we found out that we were done golfing and play was not going to resume. This was the best news that I had heard in the past two days, and I was ecstatic to be…

The first time I started to bowl was when I tried to roll the ball .everyone said to throw it so I did. What happened was i ended up just throwing it up and dropping it. I decided after learning how to actually bowl I wanted to be like my dad and start competitive bowling. When I was ten or so i used to bowl every Saturday from six in the morning to noon. After bowling for more than a year I was picked out of three hundred other kids to go bowl in a competition with my team. I competed in three to four other competition after that. My team won in one competition because after awhile they didn’t care and just wanted to go home. I really enjoyed it for many reason such as the thrill of getting a strike more than once. This semester I found my life metaphor being challenged. I have never felt that my life was out of my control until this fall. I was taking two classes, practicum, working 24 hours a week and trying to plan a wedding. I was pushed to my limit and then beyond. I tried to keep in mind, during these times of stress that I had to power to handle the situation the way I needed to, but the more I tried it seemed the more external factors continued to influence the situation. I experienced many meltdowns, but looking back I am proud that I have successfully made it to the end. During this semester, I did a lot of self-searching and I came across a new way that to look at life. I am going to take it one day at a time and accept myself for the best…

My family's bright, white van, that is covered in stickers of various colors and shapes, rumbles down the rough road. I look out the window to see the vibrant green trees, the grass that is a light shade of brown, and the occasional red and brown dead possum lying down in the middle of the road. Then I look out the windshield and see the cloud covered, dark sky that warns us of an upcoming storm. As we approach our white house with paint peeling off, I look out upon our yard that is filled with various play sets from my childhood, and multiple fruit trees that no one ever picks. I look across the desolate cotton field owned by our neighbors who I barely know. I see my Alaskan Husky, Maple, running around the yard with four small puppies.…
