Personal Narrative: Less Of A Professional Writer
Throughout this semester, I have learned many skills on how to be more of a professional writer. In the beginning, my papers were lacking in many places and as I continued, they became stronger in those places through time and effort. Throughout this self-reflection, you will learn what I improved upon and what I have yet to master.
One of my mistakes I make when writing a paper is the simple words I used. In my personal narrative, I said,”When I lost the most important thing in my life.” Thing could have met anything. If I changed the word to people that would be more specific. “The irony in this story is the townspeople from the essay thought he was an angel, but why did they treat him like an aberration?” (Literary Analysis). I never put commas in my paper unless it was before __. “We cannot afford healthier food because the junk food we need to avoid, is cheaper and more accessible,”(Argumentative Essay). In this sentence, I forgot to put a comma before because and cheaper. Putting commas in an essay became easier the more I wrote other papers. “Mary Stephenson, who earned her masters in counseling at Webster University, said she had “an absent father during my childhood and being a practising therapist, I became interested in the potential impact of that early childhood experience on my practice of counselling and psychotherapy,”(2)”(Proposing a Solution). In this sentence I could have forgotten to add a comma after Stephenson or said but when I proofread my paper the sentence made more sense to add one. Another skill I lacked in the beginning of the semester is to how to end my conclusion paragraph. “The need of the community is to start thinking about the tax now before it's too late,”(Argumentative Essay). In this example, I did not leave to the reader of very well. Saying that it is the community needs to start thinking about the problem is not going to get the reader to understand and fix the problem.
