During the past four years of attending Newark High School, working on MLA format was something teachers worked very hard on to teach students. Every essay written by each student had to be correctly written in MLA format or else you would fail a writing assignment. This has been taught since the start of Freshmen year of school. There was no way around this rule. From just graduating High School, I am very experienced with writing essays. In many different classes we had to write essays. We did not just write essays in English. Students had to write essays in Math, Biology, Psychology, French, History, Government, and many more classes.
Some of my strengths as a writer is that I am very creative. Once I have a topic in mind I can write a good story. I could also go on for hours typing up a story. Sometimes a writing assignment is so interesting to me I just do not want to stop writing and discussing it. Another strength of mine is that I am very good at research papers. I have always loved to learn about new topics. This has always been fun for me to do especially

I would like to be able to be better with writing on computers. In many job fields in today's society, technology is something people are going to need to learn. This is a quick and easy way to share documents. Another goal is to be able to not procrastinate essays as much as I typically tend to do. I am very bad with procrastination. This is something I need become better with in my life. A third goal of mine is that I would like to be able to write about topics that do not even interest me. When a topic does not interest me, I have a tough time writing it. Not everything is going to be interesting but I still need to do it. A last goal of mine is to become better with proper grammar and punctuation. I need to be able to put in the correct punctuation and use proper grammar to make reading much easier for those reading what I

The amount I have changed as a writer is unbelievable. The biggest change is that I no longer loathe writing a paper. I feel as though it comes more naturally than before, and I can now make complete sentences easier than ever before. Another thing that has changed is how quickly I can write a paragraph before I would struggle getting a cohesive thought on a page, but now writing a paragraph that relates all together in some way is easier. All of this brings me onto my next point.…

I remember, when I was younger, that I wasn't fond with the idea of writing. I remember after writing out paragraphs upon paragraphs my hands always hurting and my brain exhausted from all the mental thinking and processing of writing. However, I would have this feeling; this sensation when I would write with thought, with passion and I carved it. However, it was hard to find a place that was felt the same kind of passion that I felt for writing and could help hone my writing. Then, I found out about BISFA that could help me with my writing, but my English teacher, who was supportive in my decision, told me a question all writers should always themselves, Why do you write? I figured that I would have an answer, but it I didn't. However, it…

My writing history is all over the place. I took Honors English my eleventh grade year, and loved it but took AP English my senior year and hated it. Mr. Palmer, who taught honors, was my favorite English teacher. He let us write about whatever came to mind on Fridays, whether we were ranting about classes or just had a fun story to tell. My favorite part about him is that he actually taught me how to write. My AP teacher did not improve our writing but only critiqued it. In my opinion, you can always learn how to write better. Even with being in AP I wish she fixed my writing more than just giving me a grade. More than half our students failed the English exam and the national average was a 2 on a scale of 5. So, within the past year writing…

Faced with the dilemma of choosing my spring semester classes in college, a challenge faced by almost all college students, I was having a tough time deciding which ones that I should sign up for. Finally after much inner turmoil and debate I decided to take EN100, an english class required to be taken sooner or later by almost, if not all, college students seeking a degree. When I first signed up to take english I have to say that I was most definitely not looking forward to taking the class. Throughout my entire life I have never been a good writer and have never enjoyed taking english classes in general. Although it is very hard for me to find motivation to sit down and write papers for class, especially when I don't have something to write about that interests me, I pushed through and produced some quality papers.…

In school, English was one of my favorite classes above all because it was the easiest for me. My strengths in writing would include my use of grammar, creativity, and word choice. My creativity tends to show through when I am writing about a topic that I can personally connect with. I find that when you are able to relate yourself to what you are writing about, it gives the piece a sense of realness. Being creative also comes into play when choosing what words I use in my paper. In other words, I turn to my creativity when I want to make my work a bit more fascinating.…

I have always enjoyed writing; however, I have never enjoyed the process of writing as much as I do now. Entering this semester, I felt confident in my skills as a writer and did not expect to learn as much as I have. Each class, I found myself learning new skills to apply to my writing. I think the most important thing I learned this semester is that writing does not have to be a daunting task and that writing is about what one does with the knowledge he has.…

Creative Nonfiction is arguably the unit I struggled with the most this year, and in general. Writing about myself has always been hard for me, and when given the chance I always seemed to go too far. I came into the school year fresh-faced, however, and ready to take chances. As the first unit of the school year, it feels right that it open my portfolio, since this is basically a polished and reviewed summary of my year in writing. I also love to lead strong, and I am confident my nonfiction pieces are amongst the strongest I write all year, at least to me personally. During this unit, I learned a lot about myself and about writing about my personal experiences. I also began dedicating myself to the development of my voice and emotional truth,…
