Personal Narrative: Horse Riding
I started horse back riding when I was 10 years old, I always had a passion for being involved with animals and this was my first opportunity I had to pursue that passion. When I first started I was having the time of my life, I didnt think that anything could be this exciting, however that was only because I was a beginner, everything changed when I started getting better at riding. In the beginning it was as if I was learning to ride a bike, I had the training wheels on and I wasnt expecting for the transition to be as intense as it was. Before I had a stepping stool that made it easy to get on the horse and now I had to learn to mount a huge animal without any assistance. I was warned that if I did it incorrectly then I could get hurt. There were so …show more content…
The next level was cantering and that required a lot of skill and patience and confidence, which I didnt have at the time. Another obstacle I faced was the fact that my teacher had no patience and no tolerance for mistakes, there would be about 5 students in a lesson and it would be humiliating to get yelled at. I quickly realized that a lot of the other students were riding because they wanted to ride competitivly, but I knew that I didnt want to go down that path. I really loved being in connection with the horses but I hated feeling like a failure and being under so much pressure to look perfect and ride perfectly and do everything like a professional rider. I didnt know of any teacher that would just let me ride around on a horse. All of the people I talked to said that there are just to many rules to follow because riding is sucha dangerous thing to do and I understoood. I figured out that I had a lot of different options about what to do. I could first, quit, stick with it an be miserable or find another way to have an interaction with horses without riding. When I started high school I found out that doing community

The dining area of Rocking Horse Ranch was always hot and crowded during meal times, where the tired, overworked servers would bustle around attempting to provide excellent customer service for each and every inane request from the guests. I’ve heard that loud, hectic, quick-paced atmospheres filled with pretentious parents and scrambling children are almost calming sometimes. This atmosphere never brought me serenity; it gave me anxiety and stressed me out. Just the thought of sweeping melted ice cream cones off of the stained carpet and dry mopping the tiles floors gives me nightmares.…

Most people do not understand what it is like to get ridiculed for something that you love. When someone works hard to fit in with a certain crowd, but not accepted because they are not as good as others it can have a negative or positive impact. If someone were to take the criticism negatively, it may cause them to give up and no longer try. On the other hand, positive impacts may encourage someone to work hard to become exceptional. Working hard to become better at something is not easy, but the benefits can be tremendous. I personally have encountered this struggle.…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

Amber Wiley states in Horse-Therapy: A Life-Changing Event “Children involved in therapeutic riding benefit physically in their balance, coordination, strength, muscle control, posture, gross function and more”. It physically feels like they are able to walk. This gives the child a sense of freedom and excitement that is easily seen on their faces. Once the horse is moving, the child thinks that they are capable of doing anything. The horses help the physically challenged child to develop confidence and provides a fun way to exercise unused muscles. It gives the child a chance to “live” outside of their wheelchairs and have fun for a while like any other able bodied child. Also, when a disabled child is unable to walk they spend most of the their time in a wheelchair or bed, riding a horse gives a child a chance to feel like an abled bodied child. “Research has shown that the rhythm and symmetry of a horse’s movement are perfect tools for improving a rider’s posture, balance, verbal communication, and muscle control” (Horse Therapy for children and Adults With Special…

It all started for me when I was five, my dad told me when I could ride my bike without training wheels he would get me a dirt bike. Soon enough I was waking up on Christmas morning to a motocross bike. After that it was like throwing a match into a bucket of gasoline. All I thought about was riding my dirt bike. It soon became much more than a sport to me. We would travel up and down the whole entire east coast to race with the fastest kids so I could get faster. We were almost never home on the weekends, we were either at a race or at a track putting in practice to hopefully one day fulfill the dream of becoming a professional. Although that dream is still very far and has slowly drawn to back of my mind I still want to be a professional more than anything else.…

To get started you should have a well-mannered horse and a nice place to keep him/her. If your first starting to learn to ride you should choose a horse that’s at least 8 years or older. The horse should be calm, experienced and in good shape, not wild eyed, untamed, lazy or stubborn. Someone with more experience can help you find the right horse and environment to keep him/her. Having a good riding area would be appropriate. Somewhere you feel comfortable and make you feel like you have a lot of control of the horse.…
