Jump and Motocross
The engines rev higher with each second of the gate drop creeping closer, the vibrations of the motorcycle underneath you making you even more nervous, the smell of exhaust almost suffocating you inside your helmet, and in a split second the gate has dropped and 40 riders all funnel into the first turn. While some say it is just a simple race others see it as a lifestyle, a way to get off the edge, a high risk to fill their need for a rush, or just a quick shot of adrenaline. This is Motocross. The sport of Motocross is mostly looked upon as a death wish although it is very dangerous I think that the excitement and thrill is definitely worth the risk.
It all started for me when I was five, my dad told me when I could ride my bike without training wheels he would get me a dirt bike. Soon enough I was waking up on Christmas morning to a motocross bike. After that it was like throwing a match into a bucket of gasoline. All I thought about was riding my dirt bike. It soon became much more than a sport to me. We would travel up and down the whole entire east coast to race with the fastest kids so I could get faster. We were almost never home on the weekends, we were either at a race or at a track putting in practice to hopefully one day fulfill the dream of becoming a professional. Although that dream is still very far and has slowly drawn to back of my mind I still want to be a professional more than anything else.
My love for the sport has steadily grown stronger with every lap I have put in. It is something about the jitters you get right when you go to try a new a jump not knowing if you have enough power to make it or have too much and over jump it. That feeling you get right when the gate is about to drop is a sensation undescribeable by words. When the motors rev high and the seat rattles it is almost like a lullaby to put you into a mood to be serious, yet let all of your problems slip away, I honestly cannot describe why I love Motocross so much it is just

The cinematized versions of Niki Lauda and James Hunt effectively described motorsport’s ubiquitous appeal, in Ron Howard’s Rush. It is a rather embarrassingly barbaric allure, but unfortunately, it is one we; as a society; have not, and likely will never outgrow. People just love how close motorsport gets to death.…

An interest I am most proud of is my career in competitive gymnastics. When I first began gymnastics, I did it recreationally, but I soon fell in love with it and decided to compete. I am now into my fourth competition season. I have competed at meets all over California, and have practiced hundreds of hours. Gymnastics requires hard work and dedication, but it is worth it because I genuinely love the sport. The skills are amazing, and it is a well-rounded sport that requires grace, strength, and flexibility. I have sacrificed many hours for gymnastics, but I have gotten a lot from it in return. I have met one of my best friends at gymnastics and some of my coaches have become like family to me. I have also discovered a lot about myself. Doing…

I think most would not be able to tell that deep down inside I'm a country boy at heart because of my outer appearance. However, it's a major contributing factor to my overall personality. Under the tutelage of my father, I began riding steers at around ten years old. It wasn't until I was 16 that my dad trusted me enough to hop on a bull. With consistent practice and love for the hobby I became a competitive rider. I even qualified for a regional rodeo held in Brazil but chose to pursue the sports realm instead. It was a win-win situation for me because not only was I good in riding, but I excelled at a national level in sports. Track and field quickly became the love of my teenage years. I spent so much time training and preparing for races that bull riding became an afterthought. During my track tenure, I made it all the way to the Junior Olympics running events such as the 200-meter dash and a leg on the relay team. Upon entering high schools, I accepted my destiny in sports. I knew that bull riding was very dangerous and no longer wished to participate in rodeos with injuries in the back of my mind. I put my best foot forward in football and track to earn the attention from major schools who offered me the opportunities to continue my educational and athletic careers at their institutions. I don't regret giving up bull riding to pursue an athletic…

My parents always made sure they put me in every sport I wanted to keep their chubby-cheeked, energized, wide-eyed five year old happy. I’m sure they’d do just about anything to keep me from throwing my famous slamming door tantrums. I participated in youth soccer, dance class, t-ball, basketball and probably a couple others as well. My dreams of becoming a professional athlete were certainly in the makings.…

Some of those varieties of racing was Freestyle Motocross, riders perform two routines, lasting between 90 seconds and 14 minutes, on a course with multiple jumps and lengths then judges assigns each rider a score based on a 100-point scale, looking for difficult tricks and variations over jumps. Freestyle does have rewards and consequences At the 2008 Summer X games Jim Dechamp tried a front flip. He was not able to land it and crashed during the attempt, also breaking his back. And In early 2009, Metal Mulisha rider Jeremy Lusk attempted a Heart Attack Backflip. But he under-rotated, and crashed, hitting his head on the landing. On February 10, he was pronounced dead due to head and spinal cord…

    BMX: A Growing Sport

In order to complete anything one must have determination, and be able to realize that in order to achieve anything you must first practice. If one is to keep this motif in their minds they will be more likely to succeed at what they are doing. This is because perhaps they have natural skills in whatever that person is trying to achieve, or because that person was determined to get to that point. Like many things practice makes perfect. This is not to say that a person is going to instantly succeed, however if they are greatly determined, practice a lot, and have a lot of self confidence the greater the chances for you to reach that satisfactory point of achievement. Especially in sports keeping this in mind is definitely going to increase your chances of success. One sport in particular that this relates to is Bmx. Over the past several years Bmx has certainly become more popular, but some are still entirely unaware of what it even is. Essentially there are three different divisions of the sport: racing which is more commonly know and was how the sport was originally formulated, flatland which is exactly what it sounds like, doing tricks on and close to the ground, and then last but certainly not least there is freestyle, which I myself partake in. At the very least the most simple definition of this sport is perhaps, having the ability to ride man-made obstacles and do various tricks according to the setup. More importantly freestyle Bmx is an expression of each rider's creativity, in addition to being able to demonstrate one's skill. Ever since the start of Bmx as a sport which was roughly 40 years ago, the sport has changed far beyond what its original riders could have imagined. Bmx is a sport that continues to grow and ultimately change, in the ages of people riding, to the shape of bikes over the years, in addition to how it has become more dangerous, however the one aspect that…

It is more scary when riding in Vietnam. Riding a motorcycle in Vietnam is extremely dangerous. The traffic is chaotic, and there are poor road conditions with uneven pavement. People can accidentally bump into a hole on the road. Some holes are so big that people call them “the elephant hole”. There are no speed limit or yield signs anywhere along the way. Because of the lack of signage, it is easy to have an accident. Furthermore, some motorcycle riders even ride on the pavement due to traffic jam. Thus, the riders have to prepare to brake frequently because other riders suddenly stop, or the pedestrians cross the road anytime. The important thing is not to be panic which I am bad at.…

When I was younger I played the whole rigmarole of sports. Whether is was soccer, lacrosse, basketball, football, or baseball i had fun with all of them. Yet as I got older and began to figure more out about myself i started to trend away from them. When my dad was in his twenties and thirties he competed in lots of triathlons and followed cycling religiously. Somehow my mom decided to start doing triathlons after being a runner for years. So I got a road bike and immediately fell in love. I started doing triathlons but now I have dropped the swim and the run to focus on the bike. Being on the bike gives me that chance to suffer a and enjoy the pain. in the past i have grown as a person when faced with a challenge and pain in life, either physical or mental. I gained the ability to to control chaos from suffering. I believe every second i spend on the bike advances me as a person. I have hours alone to think about myself as a person and I grow every second on the bike. Without the bike I wouldn't be halfway to wear i am…
