Passion For Ice Research Paper
I Believe in… Toepicks, Sore Feet and Flying
To some the word flying would bring a picture of a big metal bird soaring through the sky to mind, to me, the word flying defines the way I feel when I'm on the ice. Everyone has their hobby or passion, whether it's painting, acting, golfing etc. That passion is something that drives you, motivates you and makes you feel alive. Passion is a strong word, not everything I do am I passionate about. I brush my teeth every morning and make my bed, I wouldn't say I'm too passionate about those things. I eat Taco Bell for lunch sometimes, now that I have a passion for. But seriously, having a passion for something means you fight for it, you press on even when things get tough, you never give up. For me, my passion was ice skating. Since I was a very young girl I knew I loved the ice. I would watch the Olympics in my living room and act out the skater’s movements and footwork. Having the cold bitter air hitting my face, feeling the stability of the solid ice underneath my feet, nothing was better than that. Everything changed in that moment. From that day, I knew this was my “heaven on earth”. I started taking lessons as soon as I could and started begging the coaches to let me jump and spin, I was so bored with just skating around. I wanted that Olympic appeal the skaters on TV had. I was just too young to realize it took them years and years of hard work and dedication, long days of nonstop practicing, hard falls and a lot of blood, sweat and tears.
