It is More Than Just a Game…... For anyone that plays basketball knows that it is more than just a sport, more than just a hobby, and more than just a passion that people have. The blood, the sweat, the tears, and the twisted ankles are just the little things that people face while playing the game. The emotions that are associated with the game of basketball make it my favorite past time. I hate when people say “It is just a game”. I believe that basketball has taught me many valuable life lessons and it has also played a significant role in developing me into the successful young woman that I am today; basketball is more than just a game.
Ever since the second grade, basketball has held a special place in my heart. My love

I worked so hard in tryouts to achieve that goal.
Everyday I would give my all, or at least I thought I was. As the tryout days passed me by, I would go home just knowing I made the team. The last day of tryouts came, I looked at the varsity list first only to see that my name wasn’t on itI was crushed. I then looked on the junior varsity list and there I read my name. I wasn’t happy, but at least I made something.
Later on that night, something did not sit well with me being on the Junior Varsity basketball team I felt that I did not reach my goal. I called my coach asking him why I did not make the
Varsity Basketball team, and he soon began to tell me how great of a player I was, but I was just not ready for the varsity level. I tried my best to convince him that I was. He told me that I could practice with the Varsity team that following Monday to prove myself. To make a long story short, I went into that practice ready for the fight. After practice, he came to me and said,
“Welcome to the Varsity team Miss Williams.”
I also believe that basketball is a form of escape from the difficult things in life. Anytime

After I finished high school, I was faced with the question many young people are forced to deal with: “What am I going to do now?” Although I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I knew that basketball had taught me lessons to become successful and had steered my life in the right direction. The same hard work that had turned me into a good student, also turned me into a good basketball player and I was given the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. Basketball allowed me to get my foot in the college door. In this new environment, I could explore many options, and careers, but most importantly, it allowed me to discover my identity. Without basketball, I would not be chasing my dreams of becoming a coach. Even though my playing days are over, basketball has put me in the position where I can still be around the game. My sole concentration is becoming a coach so that I may instill the values basketball taught me into the youth of today. Basketball has given me direction. Basketball gave me inspiration.
Basketball has been my flashlight all of my life, guiding me through the darkness of

I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

In 2015, I realized a long standing goal of playing on the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman. In fourth grade when I first started playing lacrosse, I had always dreamed of how far I could go. That dream of mine always stuck with me and it was my motivation to continually get better. When the coaches were separating the players to form the JV and varsity teams, they called my name to the varsity side. The only freshman to be called to the varsity side for the 2015 season. I had doubt and negativity on my shoulders from the returning players just a day before and now here they are congratulating me. They acted as if they were my friends only because they saw something in me that they never had nearly as much of. Talent. My goal had been reached,…

It’s almost, eerie how much better it makes me feel. But I positively believe that is something in my blood. Both Mum and Dad played, so they’ve rubbed off on me somehow. I play both representative and domestic basketball. Representative is a great deal more competitive and serious than domestic, however I find playing representative much more enjoyable. I guess it’s the fact that I’m playing with girls of the same age as myself, that have the same interests as I do, and are all as serious about basketball as I am.…

The day I was looking forward to had finally arrived: Basketball tryouts. I wasn’t the most talented, but I knew I could contribute to the team as a defensive stopper, using my size to my advantage. While the rest of the fellow middle schoolers struggled to hit layups and dribble the ball, I showed slightly more skill than everyone else. I made the B team that year as the team captain and leader. We didn’t win a game all season long, but that didn’t stop my love of the game; in fact, that is when it all began. I played every year up until my senior year, and now I’m the Varsity manager by my own power. Over the years, I found myself loving to play the game, but I now know my real calling card is to analyze the game.…

The day I walked into my first gymnastics class ever was at North Crest in 1st grade. I was so excited to finally be able to do gymnastics. All I did was sat tentively listening to my coach and trying everything I was asked to do. Being able to do all the jumps, leaps, and flips my coach asked me to do, showed me that I have the potential to be good at this sport. So after being in gymnastics for 6 years, I decided to try out for the High School team at school. After being evaluated on all my skill levels for 3 days on all events, it was time to figure out who made the Team. Amber, my coach called up name after name to come get there acceptance. Once she got to the last paper I figured I didn’t make the team, but she called my name and I flew right up there. There was no words to describe how happy I was to have made the team my 7th grade year. Usually people do not make the team until they reach their high school years. In every practice we stretch and do lines, then we work on our routines for every event, then at the end of practice we do super intense workouts to get us in shape to be able to compete our routines and to get us in shape to do harder skills. This now brings us to the practices I had the week before my big meet.…

Basketball is not a sport for everyone it takes a lot of dedication, strength, and teamwork. I have played basketball since I was seven years old. The love that I have for the game is indescribable, if by chance I could never play again, my soul would be a hollow lifeless shadow. From the Separating White Line I glance up at the scoreboard; the clock reads 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter. My team is down by 4 points; we have to score a three-pointer and have no time-outs left. I yell out the play for a three-pointer and a two-pointer, now the perfectly spherical ball is put in my hands. Taking a short glance to the clock I saw time was running out. The only objects I see are two tall defensive players bearing down on me. Somehow I release the ball, just in time as a defender tries to block my shot. Miraculously the ball finds its way into the hoop, with 6 seconds left and the clock stopped, the other team calls a timeout. I jog to our bench, my coach waiting on the sideline to discuss the most effective play for the situation.…

I really love going outside and compete outdoor plot of grounds. Out of the many sports that I wee-wee play in high school, I like playing basketball the near. I have a good aim and I like to be the someone to throw the ball into the hoop. I find that playing a basketball game is very challenging because it is not easy to dribble the ball pass my opponents and getting the ball finished the hoop. In my last basketball game, it took more then cardinal minutes to score a point. In addition, it takes a lot of teamwork.
