Out Of Class Critique
Public Speaking
For my out of class critique I have chosen to talk about my Into to Mechanical Engineering professor Doctor Solomon. Him being from a different country has its pro's and con's when he speaking in public as well as in our class. When it comes to what I do not like about his speaking style, there are a decent amount of things that bother me. For example when he speaks, he has a strong middle eastern accent that disturbs the pronunciation of his words. This makes it very hard to understand what he is trying to say or explain to the class. Along with his accent, when he is teaching a new topic, he reads straight out of the book and it seems that he doesn't know the topic at hand at all. While reading the topic, he tends to never look up and make eye contact with the class. These are just some of the poor speaking skills i have noticed. Now he does have one or two things that I have liked or good public speaking qualities that he has shown in class. When he is speaking in class, I believe that he know his English is not the best in the world. This is correct by him always writing down the main topic and supporting topics on the board so us as students can read it, therefore understanding the topic better. This allows us to read and hear the topic. Even though there are more bad than good public speaking manners that Dr. Solomon does, he is a decent professor. If he wants to become a great professor, Dr. Solomon needs to improve drastically on his public speaking skills.
