Oprah Winfrey Research Papers
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko Mississippi. She was left in her grandmother's care after her parents separated. She was a brilliant child who learned how to read before the age of three by her grandmother and could recite bible verses. She also skipped two grades because of how intelligent and educated she was. Oprah grew up poor on a farm with her grandmother until she was six years old. She then moved to her mother's house which was in a very dangerous and poverty-stricken neighborhood. She continuously moved back and forth between her parent's during her childhood. After seven years she was hired on A.M. Chicago and worked there for almost six months before it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show. She mostly talked about social issues, self-improvement, and spirituality. She also interviewed celebrities. Oprah's role in the movie The Color Purple caused her show to become very popular. Her show caused her to be named Woman of Achievement by the National Organization of Women.

The Oprah Winfrey Show interviewed celebrities, talked about social issues or current events, and had a book club. It was an educational platform. In 1993 Oprah interviewed Michael Jackson which was the most watched interview on television in history. Ninety million people world wide watched the interview. Oprah and Michael Jackson talked about his skin-pigment disorder vitiligo and his nose job. This was the first time Michael Jackson opened up about his skin disorder and that he wasn't "bleaching his skin."

Harpo, Inc. was a production company that Oprah created. She produced shows like The Women of Brewster Place and The Rosie Show. Oprah also create a television channel called OWN: Oprah Winfrey
