Why Should Oprah Winfrey Be Prepared To Run For President?
After her speech at an award show, speculation among Democrats spread far and wide that Oprah Winfrey might be prepared to run for President in 2020. Democrats were prepared to have their first female president, excited that it might be a former TV hostess!

However, in an interview with InStyle magazine, Oprah laid those whispers to rest, saying that she had no desire to be president. Her exact words were, “I've always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it's not something that interests me. I don't have the DNA for it.”

In other words, Oprah has no desire to run for President. Whether she said this because she suspects she’d lose, or because she has copious skeletons in her

Oprah, who was one of the richest people in Hollywood, didn’t manage to find the voice to speak out until it was profitable, a thread that runs throughout her history.

While on the topic of the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the idea that Oprah deserved such an award is a questionable one at best. Though she raked in the money and the viewership as a daytime talk show hostess, her film resume is sparse at best.

Past recipients of the Cecil B. DeMille Award, such as Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro, had long histories in the industry and filmographies that were filled with classic films. Oprah has been in a handful of films, most of which were flops, and has never won a Golden Globe.

To compare, Robin Williams won SEVEN Golden Globe awards before getting the Cecil B. DeMille award, and he starred in countless films that are rightly considered to be classics. Perhaps Oprah received the award for some other reason than her qualifications?

While Oprah fans are saddened that she seems to only be handing out disappointment these days, they can look forward to whoever the DNC chooses to run in her place being interviewed in the most friendly of ways on her network at some point in the near

Ms.Angelou is not only gracious and thankful for her awards, but she does not boast. In Beowulf, Beowulf’s first proclamation to the king was not about his honor of being in the presence of a king; his first proclamations were of all the things he had accomplished and of everything he was capable of ( Beowulf Lines 149-159). This is not the way a ‘noble’ modern-hero would act. Maya Angelou, on the contrary, blushed and thanked President Barack Obama when he presented her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor in 2010 ( Guardian Liberty). It wasn’t even her first time being medaled by a president. It was, in fact, her 3rd. But her humility had her humble. Beowulf ,however, is very snobby. He says in the documentary Beowulf, that he doesn’t even need a sword to defeat the monster because he feels as if he can do it with his bare hands (Films Media). When trying to win Civil Rights, Angelou states that she needs “all the help she can get” from her fellow African Americans. She did not inherit her heroism either. On the other hand, Beowulf was born into a family of great warriors and was cousins with royalty in his country. He was bound to have the duties of a hero because it ran in the family. Angelou made her name, image, and reputation from nothing. She built herself and her name from the ground up. Beowulf may have inspired a few warriors after they received the chance to…

Oprah Winfrey, for one, grew up in an abusive household where male relatives of hers would repeatedly molest her, which took an emotional toll on Oprah. She was an unsettled teenager who appeared to have no future ahead of her, considering the cruelty and harm she had undergone. After Oprah moved to Nashville to live with her father, where she could have easily been absorbed in the same life style she perused in New York, constantly surrounding herself with promiscuous behavior. Instead, she cleaned up her act and won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant, got an on-air job at WVOL, and also won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University. From there she continued her career as a radio newscaster, and eventually had her own radio show. With continued persistence, Oprah gained her own television talk show and is now the highest-paid performer on television. Oprah’s ambition was what drove her to continue her fight through her hard childhood, and make a positive, healthy life for herself. If Oprah lacked the ambitious qualities that she had and gave up, she would likely be trapped as a damaged and troubled woman who let her past experience define who she…

Although that may not necessarily be a bad thing, we need a form of change in our country. Something to unify the people and give ourselves a reminder of why this country is supposed to be a leader of the world, and how we earned the title “land of the free, home of the brave.” Hilary, maintaining most of what rang as gospel in the Obama administration, may find herself in the most amicable of spots. A position of power that no woman has ever held before and a nation she can shape however she wants. For that, I applaud her. However, she’s never quite made a clear and unequivocal stance. Changing her ideals and propositions as it becomes the “popular” thing to do. She panders and she caters to whatever takes to be commonplace in the eyes of the people and despite her recurrent insistence of being revolutionary in her opinions she never quite suffices to live up to such a title of grandeur. Don’t even get me started on her moral ambiguity according to what she has presented to the…

In 1986, she created Harpo Productions Inc., and a couple years later decided to purchase her own studio in the heart of Chicago. Like most entrepreneurs, she took own ownership and production of “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, taking on greater financial risks in order to gain greater achievements. This made her the first African American, male or female, to own her own production company. This was seen as a big gamble, and many said that she would end up failing by leaving. Through the gamble of venturing out on her own, she spread her voice throughout the whole country. Every week, an average of 20 million U.S citizens would tune in to listen to what she would have to say on a certain topic. The 90’s became filled with talk shows on many networks, but Winfrey was able to flourish as she chose to empathize with people who were in desperate need of help. As she would emphasize solutions to help people, other shows would discuss topics that are now seen on E! or TMZ; unimportant stories that would fill up 30…
