Negative Effects Of Elf On A Shelf
Propaganda, or a parenting tool? What many parents see as innocent, many others, including a child psychologist, may not and rightfully think so. The negative effects of Elf on the Shelf range as child psychologist, Dr. David Kyle Johnson, states in his excerpt. Not only does this little holiday tradition pose a threat to children, it also does for parents too. The strings attached to Elf on a Shelf vary from iPhone apps, television programs, and even a website. The potential dangers to relationships is detrimental. The dangers associated with Elf on the Shelf span across a large scale, leaving many children and parents left in a trap. Noticing the dangers that come along with this toy is important, as it may cause problems for years to come. …show more content…
With the holidays recurring, obviously, the Elf on a Shelf is a problem that will persist from one year to another. Causing detrimental dangers to children and their parents, it is obvious to not start a tradition with this toy. Children will ask, “where is Elf on a Shelf this year?” to the parents, trying to bring back the previous years fun. But no fun is associated with this toy if one was to look beyond the purpose, and realize the potential problems with Elf on a Shelf. Realizing these dangers could save many problems with the holidays. No elf, no problem! Children have open, innocent minds with good intentions always at hand. With little doubt in anything that happens, Elf on the Shelf looks like a fun and festive way to kick off the holiday season. But as Dr. David Kyle Johnson says, children are affected in a couple of ways, including how they perceive reality and their attitudes toward their parents. A false sense of reality leads kids to having high hopes, only leaving the possibilities for those hopes coming to a horrible disappointment. For kids, the possibilities for bad outcomes are evident and should be avoided at all

Tobolowsky’s article echoes thoughts and feelings about Santa, fears about life, and general doubts that are common to almost every child at some point in his or her life. Stephen describes childhood events and his own propensity toward fear and doubt in a frank and humorous manner that reminds me of Ralphie’s narration in A Christmas Story. Underneath the humor, however, there exists the real torment of doubt and fear that Stephen experiences, fear of the dark, fear of strange noises at night, fear of monsters living in his bedroom. While these fears simply frustrate his well-intentioned parents, they drive Stephen to create remedies of his own to allay his fears. However,…

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" is a popular children's story intended for young boys and girls under the age of ten. The book features a green, irritable, displeased, cave-dwelling creature who lives atop a mountain in a fantasy world. The Grinch, along with his pet dog, observes from their cavernous home, the Christmas festivities of the neighboring town of Whoville. After 53 years, the creature chooses to finally put an end to the Who's Christmas celebrations, and make Christmas not come. The Grinch decides that in order to suppress the annoying holiday cheer of the Who's, he must sneak into all of their houses and steal their Christmas paraphernalia. He fashions a Santa-like jacket and hat and affixes a branch to the head of Max the dog, and sets off to Whoville to rid the surrounding areas of happiness and joy.…

All can relate to that one special time of the year, Christmas, when whole families unite and spend hours endlessly sharing stories, making memories, and of course, opening presents! What happens though, when all of the sentimental value of Christmas is replaced solely with physical value, the gifts? What would Christmas be like then? Richard Rodriguez takes the readers through one of his annual Christmases and brings to light, through his thoughts, the disconnect that exists between himself, his siblings, and his parents. Rodriguez’ chronological presentation of events with flashbacks, short, abrupt syntax, light-hearted attention to detail and concerned tone contribute to suggest his worried attitude toward his family.…

Christmas is a holiday celebrated around the world. Children wait all night the evening before for santa to place their gifts beneath the tree. Excitement rages from them the morning of December twenty-fifth; pretty wrapping paper and shiny bows glisten under the christmas tree lights while the bulbs upon it sparkle so elegantly. However, Christmas is not about all these aspects that it is displayed as. Christmas has more meaning than pretty gifts and how many gifts each child has under the tree. This holiday is above the amount of money one kid gets while the next gets so little. Though some see Christmas as a materialistic holiday, it has far more depth than so little meaning. The Holiday of Christmas contrasts greatly with celebrations…
