Autobiography My work history is a long list, but there are only a few jobs that make me who I am. I started working when I was 13 years old, and that’s where I began learning responsibility. I’ve worked at many restaurants during my teen years. Then after I graduated from high school,
I started my first real job at RadioShack. From there I worked at Best Buy. I sold cell phones and computers there. After Best Buy, I was offered a job at Verizon Wireless as a sales agent and this is currently where I work and I love what I do! RadioShack was my first real job, I started there as a Seasonal Sales Associate in the Eastwood Mall in Niles, Oh. During the holidays I proved myself by selling over one hundred phones a month for the 3 months I was seasonal and they decided to hire me in as a permanent employee. After a few months I was moved to the kiosk in the middle of the mall which was strictly wireless. Due to the fact cellphones was where I excelled they wanted me to focus on just that.
As a few more months have passed, I was so well liked at RadioShack that I built such a customer rapport I sold more and more and I received a recognition award for selling over $500,000 worth of Gross Profit for the company. Six months in to my job, there talk about separating the kiosk from the store and there would need to be a manager. So, I applied for the position and after weeks of interviews I was chosen for the job. My duties went from just selling to scheduling, doing inventory, conference calls, meetings, interviewing, and so much more. I worked hard and sold phone after phone the profits rose and the sky was the limit for me. So as the months progressed they haven’t established a proper inventory replenishment system for my store. Therefore, my stock was dwindling, and I was running out of phones to sell. This really put a damper on my stores stats and they ended up shutting it down and I quit due

My first job was as a sales person of eye glasses at a Christmas fair. I was hired for one month with no day off to sell glasses during the month of December for a small retailer. I was responsible for the eye glasses to be displayed and clean, and sell them. It was not easy because I had to wake up early, open the shop; and my day finished at 8-9 pm when the store closed. It was a very busy time of the year. It was a very hard one month but there was nothing more satisfying then the first pay check, then I knew I did a good job. There is no embarrassing job if you learn to do it with pride and respect.…

Reviewers were consistently unhappy about the retailer’s sales commission structure and the long hours. The reviews also indicated that the company limits commissions to certain products, instead of paying based on sales. “Over the years compensation has turned into a big joke. You MUST perform in all metrics (service plans, batteries, cell phones, etc) to get any sort of bonus as an associate.” stated a former RadioShack employee. (www.glassdoor.com)…

The worst job I’ve ever had was probably working at Petsmart, in Sand City. I have had a lot of jobs and this made me realize I don’t like working at corporations or in retail. I grew up in the country and have always had jobs doing physical labor either at my parent’s farm, or the surrounding farms. When I first started working at Petsmart I liked it. As time went on I started to see how bad it really was. The management was horrible, I was assigned for a graveyard type job, and no one did anything until the District manager was coming in that week.…

Before starting my college education, I worked for over 6 years at Mitchell & Ness, a multi-million dollar retail clothing company and store in Philadelphia, extensively in their inventory department. I spent time during the year working with our various warehouse managers to investigate the root cause of inventory adjustments. Working in a position that required attention to detail further taught me ways to improve my problem-solving skills and give me a change to work independently as well as in a team environment. Being able to grow with that company from working on their retail sales floor to their corporate office gave me a full view of the company’s day to day operations and gave me a better perspective on work.…

On September 8th 1990, it was a hot sunny day in the city of Cali, Colombia. Temperature around 88°F with very low humidity, normal for that time of year, since the summer was about to begin. A sky full of altocumulus clouds cooled the estimated population of about 1.7 million people ("1990 population estimate for Cali, Colombia."). Among that population there was my mother. Already late for her gynecology appointment, inconveniently causes by a car accident, she would shortly find out when I would be entering the world. The accident turned a 20-minute drive in a 45-minute drive. Rushing into the clinic, as the doctor’s assistant was calling her name, she rapidly was taken to the back to speak with the provider. When the doctor came into the room he calmly said, “I have good news, and bad news”. My mom’s heart already racing she decided to go with the bad news first. “The probability of being a complicated birth is pretty high, which means the surgical team will have to perform a cesarean section instead of a vaginal birth”. My mother relived thinking it would be something much worse she asked the doctor to go ahead with the good news. “The baby will probably be arriving today”. My mom became frantic, “that’s the good news? They might as well both have been bad! My mother panicked, she had nothing ready for the birth, since her first child was not due for another 10 days. Her hormone levels raging at an all time sky high, she shortly began to cry. The doctor and his staff hugged her and reassured her that everything was going to be ok. They quickly rushed her to the hospital where they would have all the equipment in the event that there were any major complications. Once she was all settled in, the operating room staff started to prepare for the birth around 3:15 P.M. The staff thought I was ready to come out, however I took another three hours to make my grand appearance. At 6:23 PM I arrived spreading my arms and legs with a…

As a child, if someone told me that my first job would be in the food service, I would accuse them of lying. If they told me I would absolutely love it? Impossible, I’d say. It will never happen. Yet here I am, seven months into my first job at a bagel shop. I now work a job I never thought I would have, and it changed me in ways I never thought possible.…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…

I spent the end of May and beginning of June applying for any activity job or volunteer opportunity that held my interest. I spent hours preparing for interviews, writing lengthy letters and internally panicking at every ring of the phone. in June I started my first job at the Hebron Carnival, and I could not have been more excited. I promised myself that I would work my hardest to make the carnival a better place than when I arrived. I also was accepted by the volunteer program at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and began work there every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that was the most educational job I have ever had the pleasure of working at.Also in June I applied to work at Azar Eye Institute and received a position there. I worked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 5:30. even after balancing my workload I was informed that I got a job volunteering at the library; which I did Monday and Thursday afternoons, and I also got a job working with children and animals at the Pemberton nature camp. Five jobs for a 15-year-old without a license sounds overwhelming, and it was. However, I loved every minute of it. I liked being part of the team, I liked being relied on by my fellow staff members, and most of all I liked having a…

I started working at fifteen years old. I have had a few jobs over the past 11 years, but my current place of employment is the worst one I have ever had. I worked in a welding shop for 7 years. I was the shop manager, which was the highest position that you could achieve there. It was time to get a new job, after there was not any more room to grow in my current one. I then got a job working in the plants for Apache Industrial. We get to do a lot of different things which is why I wanted this job. In the course of working my way through school, I have taken many jobs I would rather forget. I have spent nine hours a day lifting heavy automobile and truck batteries off the end of an assembly belt. I have risked the loss of eyes and fingers working a punch press in a textile factory. I have served as a ward aide in a mental hospital, helping care for brain damaged men who would break into violent fits at unexpected moments. But none of these jobs was as dreadful as my job in an apple plant. the work was physically hard; the pay was poor; and, most of all, the working conditions were dismal.…
