Assignment: Discourse Community Analysis

Old Navy all the way!!!
In my senior year in high school, I had to pass two classes only in order to graduate.
I didn’t have to stay in school the entire day, but I had to find a job in order to leave school early or I was going to be given six more classes to meet with the regular school schedule.
I applied for a job at many places, but couldn’t find one for about two months. One day one of my classmates who worked at Old Navy informed me that they were hiring. I applied at Old Navy right after class and I received a call for an interview four hours later.
I went in for the interview the same day and I was hired. I thought that was my lucky day because I always wanted to work in a clothing store instead of fast food. I worked at Old
Navy as a sales associate. I belong to the discourse community of the Old navy sales associates because I accomplished great performance in customer service, and taught other associates how to use the register.
In order to belong to the discourse community of sales associates, I had taken several steps. I had to pass through three interviews with three different managers.
Because Old Navy was my first job, I went through a three day training. My training consisted of customer service on the floor, register, and the organization of clothes in the section they belonged to. I was given a name tag and a walkie-talkie to communicate with other sales associates who worked in different section of the store. I was introduced to all the store managers and some of my coworkers.

I belong to the discourse community of sales associates because I was recognized by my customers and coworkers for being part of this community. I spent eight hours everyday meeting new people. I got to relate with some mothers who shopped for their daughters of my age, so I suggested them clothes, shoes, and the little things that teenagers like. I

A person in this occupation must conduct all business in accordance with TMI polices and procedures. I took a journey through my mother’s occupation as an On-Site Property Manager. She has been in this field for almost 5 years. I guess that would make her and old timer in her job. In order to be in this field all she had to have was a high diploma and a lot of people skills. She has to attend a yearly training program. That's good because the learning never stops in the occupation. Any person going into this field has to know the meaning of HUD (Housing Urban Development) and RD (Rural Development). You also have to read the Louisiana Fair Housing policies and procedures. My mother says she chose this field because it allows her to put her business management classes to good use.
