An instance of me joining a discourse community was the time I joined my high school varsity tennis team. This discourse community was founded on athletic skills, mental toughness, and academic success. In order to contribute to this discourse community and to become a successful tennis player I needed each of these qualities. Through the three appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos I will acquire the basic rules of tennis, establish my ranking throughout the tennis community, and gain mental toughness to be apart of the discourse community of varsity tennis.…
After I watched two hours of intense play and the huddle split, I observed high fives and complex handshakes of some sort. “Hampton on three. Hampton on three. ONE, TWO, THREE, HAMPTON!” They started coming my way; as an ex-basketball player, deep down I yearned for a handshake or some kind of acknowledgment, but I sat there like a fork in the road. Each member parted around me to my left and to my right, some giving head nods and some giving nothing at all. I quickly realized that I was clearly not a part of this discourse community.…
with one another. Aside from the club events, the college student and the buddy are supposed to meet twice a month to develop a relationship with each other. Even though Best Buddies meet together as a group, they are not a discourse community.…

To be a part of a discourse community, one must be credible, possess factual knowledge and draw on the values of its members to be accepted into the community. At the same time, a person must learn typical ways people in that community communicate and argue. When I entered the discourse community of my high school athletic department I acquired knowledge, established credibility, and drew on the values and emotions of other members of the community. Although, one might question my standing as a member of the athletic discourse community, I am a member because of my knowledge, credibility and my ability to sway the emotions of others in my group.…
Business is an occupation, profession, or trade; as so www.dictionary.com states. In a business environment one can expect a lot of reading and writing coming from the business itself when it comes to keeping track from income statements to all the investments in the company or business. Reading and writing is found in many discourse communities, it can be a group that shares the same goals or interests. There are many ways in which we can incorporate our reading, writing, research and critical thinking skills that apply to our daily routine. I’ve developed in my understanding of my identity and how it has been shaped because of reading, writing, research, and critical skills. To weather its learning from others experiences in literacy or just picking up skills from an article on research done online. There’s a difference between the reading and writing done in a discourse community such as a business opposed to a job at the business, both require different ethics in the literacy world.…

Your story is every detailed, and you give us multiple examples and experiences. I like that at the beginning you talked about you dancing when you were little and about the tutus and jazz costumes. To me, that means that you have been apart of the dance discourse community for a long time and it is ever near and dear to your heart. However, I think you need to make what your discourse community is more known because from your story I can not tell what it is.…
In order to be accepted into a discourse community, a person must learn typical ways people in that community communicate and argue. In this paper I will prove that I entered the discourse community of my high school soccer team by acquiring knowledge, establishing my credibility, and learning the game I love. In other words, I will be using the ethos, logos, and pathos appeals. I love to play soccer and watch the professionals who play on TV. I have played since I was ten years old and always played in a city league team. The requirements of being part of the team were simple but at the same time very hard. I was recently part of my high school soccer team, the Crowley Eagles. People might have looked at us as just a regular soccer team, but we were a family that grew to love each other. From losing most games in the season to coming back and being undefeated we always stuck together.…
I will focus my paper toward the Analyzing portion of the learning outcomes as it pertains to my Rhetorical Analysis Essay, “Everybody has an Opinion.” I was assigned to choose an article and analyze it exactly how the author explains it to the audience. I could not be bias; I could only judge and explain it off of how the author used rhetorical appeals to describe that specific topic. I choose to focus on this assignment because I never even knew what ethos, pathos, or logos were until I read the rhetorical appeals handout. During this semester, I grew more as a writer than any other unit during my lifespan. It also helped me to analyze the world itself, daily activities, or even basic conversations beyond just the surface of it. Learning…
In general when someone talks about men in Phi Gamma Delta they think of loud obnoxious guys, who would rather think about the next big party than their next test or homework assignment. But when they take a deeper look into the fraternity you see men who are dedicated to their morals, service, and friendship. “A fraternity is an association of men, selected in their college days by a democratic process, because of their adherence to common ideals and aspirations. Out of their association arises a personal relationship which makes them unselfishly seek to advance on another in the arts of life and to add, to the formal instruction of the college curriculum, the culture, and the character which men acquire by contact with great personalities, or when admitted to partnership in great traditions”(Newton D Baker). Through exploring the history, power structure, slang words, rushing process, membership obligation, the way Phi Gamma Delta members dress, and how students who are not in a fraternity see the members. We will see how this discourse community can seem bias to outsiders.…
The pressure of being a student in university is a challenge that turns out to be rewarding and most definitely shaping. Full time university students are thought to have all the time they need for studying since they are unemployed or at the most work part-time. Being a full time student myself, I can ensure that it is hard work to stay emotionally stable, organize and set priorities straight while being on a diet of energy drinks and trail mix. The pressure and lack of rest drains on the appearance of students which leads to students being compared to zombies as we share some significant similarities. Both have an insatiable appetite, inability to rest, and deteriorating hygiene. One major difference is that zombies are incapable to articulate while communication with something other then their mirror image is one of the few things that keep students sane.…
Soccer has been a huge part of my life since I was young. Ever since I can remember, I’ve joined the school soccer team when I was given the option. Of all the years I was involved in soccer, my high school freshman year was the most memorable. Due to my advanced skills, I was put in the senior soccer team, a feat quite difficult to accomplish for any incoming athlete. That year our school hired a highly experienced coach; he made our school team feel like a real discourse community. Unlike other coaches I’ve had before, his knowledge and wisdom of the game of soccer surpassed that of anyone I’ve met. From the very first day of try-outs, I felt like I was part of a professional soccer team. Running back and forth across the soccer field, my classmates and I were working hard to impress the new coach, as he was just hours away from picking his team players. Little did I know I was in for an experience of a lifetime.…
Also, facility managers who are responsible for the design of workspaces may spend time at construction sites and may travel between different facilities while monitoring the work of maintenance, grounds, and custodial staffs. However, new technology has increased the number of managers who telecommute from home or other offices, and teleconferencing has reduced the need for travel. Most administrative services managers work a standard 40-hour week. However, uncompensated overtime frequently is required to resolve problems and meet deadlines. Facility managers often are "on call" to address a variety of problems that can arise in a facility during non work hours. So the basics include: the summary of the position at hand, the duties and responsibilities of the job, the interview process, hiring process, and the training that comes once a candidate is selected. This position is one that takes a lot of hard work and accomplishments to reach the goal of the company. This kind of job is usually one that you have to climb a ladder to get to and the salary is not bad as well. Having skills with technology such as computers really helps. The main thing is to take the training very serious and the rest will come…
