Worst Job

The worst job I’ve ever had was probably working at Petsmart, in Sand City. I have had a lot of jobs and this made me realize I don’t like working at corporations or in retail. I grew up in the country and have always had jobs doing physical labor either at my parent’s farm, or the surrounding farms. When I first started working at Petsmart I liked it. As time went on I started to see how bad it really was. The management was horrible, I was assigned for a graveyard type job, and no one did anything until the District manager was coming in that week.
The managers were good people but when it came to work they seemed to not really care. The shift manager would sit in his office all day eating and watching ESPN on his phone. Our hiring manager tried to be a sales associate, instead of doing the work she was always complaining about. No one would do the inventory so when it did get done everything was off. I would tell the shift manager the days and times I would need off, and for some reason I’d be scheduled for times I requested off weeks prior. When I applied I signed up for “Sales associate” but ended up working cash register. After I quit, I found out that almost everyone got fired and Petsmart is now under new management.

The District manager would come in almost every month for a store checkup. We were supposed to be doing things weekly to avoid getting behind, but with this management nothing really got done. The District manager would come and there would be prices from the last month still on items. Items wouldn’t be on the shelves and still in the back from the night before. He would observe customers asking if we had certain things in stock and no one would know because it was a mess in the back. After the second time the District manager came to the store he was so fed up he just walked out.
After a few months of working at Petsmart I was told that I was going to be doing shifts from

My first job was as a sales person of eye glasses at a Christmas fair. I was hired for one month with no day off to sell glasses during the month of December for a small retailer. I was responsible for the eye glasses to be displayed and clean, and sell them. It was not easy because I had to wake up early, open the shop; and my day finished at 8-9 pm when the store closed. It was a very busy time of the year. It was a very hard one month but there was nothing more satisfying then the first pay check, then I knew I did a good job. There is no embarrassing job if you learn to do it with pride and respect.…

Next, Hollister treats their employees a different way then most companies. If I am having a bad hair day, or I am looking a little tired I get placed in the back. Before clocking in I have to have my manger look me over and if I’m not dressed perfectly I could be sent home. Since there are around forty-five associates, therefore the hours they give are very small, usually one shift a week for four hours. Sometimes it’s not even worth my time. When working at Bath and Body works, every time I come in for a shift they are always greeting me with a compliment and a smile. They are very understanding that there are other things going on in my life besides this job. There are only fifteen…

After reading the whole case, I believe that the hiring policy was not followed was the biggest problem. The reason that was because the regional and district managers did not really follow the way it should be. Since the company expanded rapidly, the managers had the pressure to fill positions quickly in order to run the company well. At the meanwhile, managers had to check a large numbers of applications from sales people from other retailers and it was really hard for managers to recognize who were potentially consultants, not clerks. Therefore, there was tendency to hire those who had more experiences.…

You: Soon after I graduated from high school I went to work at a convenient store that was open 24 hours and 7 days a week. I was a night clerk that worked from 11PM to 7AM for over a year. I also worked the 2nd shift from 3PM to 11PM for almost a year until they promoted me to a shift supervisor. I enjoyed the 3rd shift more than the 2nd shift, but I can handle either one. It will be much easier for me to work the 3rd shift now since I just finished my business degree at Kaplan. Night shift requires you to work with little or no supervision, so it is imperative for you to be able to work well on your own. I have always been a self-starter, and worked well on my own, so it would not be a problem for me to run the 3rd shift. Also, you have to learn to sleep during the day, which is a challenge until you get acclimated. Since I have had experience doing that it will be easy for me to adjust.…

Before working at La Vitas II, I used to work at shop rite as a cashier. Even though a cashier and a waitress are very different, I know I learned a lot from there that I still use today as a waitress. Being a cashier at a super market makes you learn a lot about dealing with people on a day-to-day basis. Not everyone is good at working with the public because people can be very rude and most of the time you can’t say anything back, you just need to smile and work the situation out to make the customer happy.…

Managers see People as robots. At first, one can argue that these unskilled entry level jobs are easy, but after working at one, it changed my attitude towards life. It was not so much the busy environment or physical labor that was particularly hard; it was the mental and emotional stress that affected me as an individual. The relationships of managers towards the employees, thus no matter how hard people are working, created very hesitant working environment. With having to do twenty things at a time, it is very mentally draining. Since one of the main priorities was to save labor and not to cut into the profits, people were required to do multiple positions at a time. I remember how insane it was to be an order taker and cashier at the same time during the dinner rush. Besides dealing with costumers, trying to hear what people are ordering through the intercom, and ringing up the order, I had to follow the standard guidelines of greeting, confirming the order, asking for drinks, and saying “Please pull to the window”. While at the same time, I had to greet the customer at the window, say the total, collect the money, ask for sauce, check the items in the bag, tell the customer what’s in the bag, and then “please come again”. After such experience, I do not know how anyone would not attend school to obtain at least some education. Therefore, working there drained all the energy out of me and made me very moody and sensitive because I was always tired. At the end of every shift, I just wanted to come home and hide in the closet while crying myself to sleep because of mental exhaustion. My experience, as a former Taco Bell employee, is a perfect example of capitalism and how it alienates people from the product, self, process and the…

The GM was solely concerned about the orders getting out in less than 5 minutes but did not consider the managers to be the problem no, it must have been those “punk” teenagers who work there. The managers were also getting more annoying. They would give us the most tedious and boring jobs and then yell at us if we did not do them fast enough. On this particular day, I had been yelled at a couple of times. They made me do the crappy jobs again. I got off late again. That night something inside of me snapped. I looked in the mirror, and I didn't like what I saw. I remember saying to myself, look at what you have done to yourself; you've aged ten years in the nine months you've worked there. In the coming weeks I put in my notice and deuced out (left). I have lived the rest of my days in peace knowing that I would never have to go back to that succubus of a restaurant, and understanding how bad those workers really have…

    Starbucks a Nightmare

At my Starbucks, we would have one person working each shift. We had three shifts per day, the opening shift, the midday, and the closing shift. With all my luck I got to either open the store, or close the store. I really didn't like opening or closing, but I said to myself, money is money, and I can't go wrong with making money. Another thing that bothered me about my job was the money. My starting salary was only $6.50 per hour, while other Starbucks salaries started at $8.00 an hour. I didn't apply anywhere else, so I guess I was stuck with the job I had for now.…
