My Teaching Philosophy: My Philosophy Of Education
A teaching philosophy is a personal statement for teachers and anyone committing them in teaching. I already see myself as a teacher with my teaching philosophy anchored to mould my students as “plants are fashioned by cultivation, men by education” (Rousseau, 2013, pp. 8). It is important to believe in a philosophy to be able practice adequately. My beliefs and teaching philosophies revolve around the philosophy and thoughts of great philosophers like Aristotle, Dewey, Freire, Noddings and Plato.
Primarily, I base my teaching on the belief that learning should be to encourage students think in a rational and critical way rather than just memorizing facts and figures or do rote learning. Students should learn and acquire knowledge not only …show more content…
They are both dependant on each other. Moreover, education cannot take place in a vacuum neither do individuals exist as unitary but rather as a society I strongly agree when Dewey claims in ‘Experience and Education’ individuals do not exist alone but rather as part of a community. He also points out that individual has also been a social being and personal satisfaction can only be achieved in the context of the society. Education is very important “in guiding a bewildering nation through the hazards of social change” (Dewey, 1938, pp 3) especially to adapt in this society which is highly changing by the invention of new technologies. I consider that providing appropriate education will produce adequate manpower and fulfill needs for the future in any fragment of the society. Teachers educating the students keeping that society and education are related concepts will promote education for the welfare of the society. However, Aristotle put forward the idea that only boys should be educated for the welfare of the society. Girls are believed to be weaker and less capable. This statement put ahead by Aristotle is not a valid point according to me as the society is formed with both sex and both need to be given equal …show more content…
