My Mother
My Mother Marilyn

Many of people have been a great influence in my life, but, most importantly, my mother is the person who has had the greatest impact. I admire my mother because of how she faces her struggles, how she respects herself, how she has accomplished so much, and for everything she’s done for me in my life. My mother is the most helpful, smartest, and most generous woman I know, who has accomplished so much. My mother, Marilyn, is so generous. She definitely goes out of her way to help others in need. For example, she opened up a rehabilitation program, Woman at the Well Ministries. The program is designed to help men and women living in the streets to get off drugs. She has also counseled men and women on the streets by talking to them about ways to get back on track with their lives making life changes and prays with them also. In addition, my mother has volunteered to work for many churches and the community. Marilyn has collected items, such as canned foods, old coats, toys and eyeglasses, for less fortunate families. In addition, she goes to different church’s teaching Sunday school classes and help cleaning churches also. In addition to being so generous with people, I also love that my mother is very helpful to others. For instance, there was a time that we were on our way home, and a lady was on the side of the road and needed help. My mother didn’t waste any time pulling over to help the woman. Another time she helped our church feed the homeless. She’s also donated clothes to shelters; in which they were very thankful. My mother has also hosted several charity events to help the less fortunate. For example, one time her church had a fish fry to raise money, and she did a great job hosting it. Besides being generous and helpful, my mother has accomplished so much.
Hard work and overcoming obstacles has definitely been a part of my mother’s life, but she amazingly keeps pushing forward. For example, my mother

I am her oldest child. I remember that young woman with a quick temper who could yell when she needed to. Now having my own children, I know that no one sees your worst sides like your children do. But I also watched her change, with the death of her own parents when she was in her 20’s, through the loss of a son, and through her battles with cancer. With each sorrow, mum grew in wisdom and strength, she reached out in ways that I am only still becoming aware of. She spoke with other mothers who lost sons and daughters, she knew the pain, she knew how awful that could be, and she knew how to comfort, hug, and cry with those who had lost one of their own. Through that loss she gained a different perspective on being a mother. She learned that love speaks louder than anger and that some things are not worth the fight. It’s a grandmother’s wisdom – and I hope and pray that I listened enough to take those lessons so hard learned to heart. When mum and dad found out last year that the cancer was terminal, that the cancer that we had hoped, prayed and believed was defeated had come back. She knew where she was going, and that she would see Wilder, my brother, again. That she would fight as hard as she…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

We were driving down a main road in Bangor, Maine one day when we passed a sign asking for volunteers to work in the soup kitchen. As everyone should know, a soup kitchen is for the less fortunate of people who need some sustenance which they cannot afford. So, my mom seeing this sign right away, made a mental note to call this place. Some time passed and my mother was working at the soup kitchen for five days a week. I would joke to her about getting her a nobel peace prize but she always replied with a smile. She would tell me someone else deserved it way more then she did. She always believed herself as being someone who gives as much as she is asked by her savior Jesus Christ.…

My mother passed on charitable traits to me. For example, whenever we see the homeless or the needy, we give a little of what we have even though it’s not much. I have always admired my mother’s devotion to her children, her selflessness, her generosity, and her optimism. There were times that I would felt that I couldn’t do anything effectively. I have never been the smartest, the most useful, or the most confident person, but my mother had always seen me differently and made sure I thought highly of myself. This nurturing experience has taught me acceptance of other individuals despite their flaws. She does whatever she can to help us…
