My responsibilities at summer camp were to help lead activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, and outdoor survival. I also volunteered my time in the kitchen where I helped cook the food and clean up after meal preparation was complete. In the evenings my duties as a co-counselor involved leading the campers down to campfire, discussing the events of the day, and getting them ready for bed. Volunteering at summer camp allowed me to realize how much I enjoy working with other people.
During spring break of grade eleven I, along with ten others, traveled to Guatemala for two weeks for a service trip. During the time there our biggest project was helping complete the construction of a career school. Our team also worked with the children attending the already open elementary and middle school, and supplying families in need with baskets of food and supplies. The trip to Guatemala helped me gain a better perspective of the world we live in and I am continually reminded of the time I spent there through the two girls that I am sponsoring
