Reaction Paper: My Ideal School
This reaction paper addresses the question of what my ideal school would be like. My ideal school would be consisting of a really good learning environment where students want to learn and teachers want to teach. It would be a diverse school with students of different cultural backgrounds builds on respect for one another. I have always admired and respected people of various cultural backgrounds and I would like to learn from my fellow students as well as my teachers.
My ideal school must have knowledgably and motivated teachers who know how to effectively communicate their knowledge in the classroom. Knowing the information means nothing if the teacher is not able to communicate this information to the students. In my ideal school a good teacher takes the knowledge and presents it in such a way that the students will readily understand it and be able to utilize the information. On the other hand, a bad teacher will make it almost impossible to understand even the simplest things.
In my ideal school the teachers will seek to find new and interesting ways to present material to the students (even on an individual basis), and they will help to motivate their students and show them that the material they are learning is relevant. The most important responsibility of a teacher in my ideal school will be to ensure high academic achievement for all students.
In conclusion my ideal school will consist of students who want to learn and teachers who want to teach. This school will be a partnership between the students and the teachers. It will be a positive and friendly environment for everyone involved and everyone who is there will want to be there.

When trying to design an ideal high school, I feel that two important aspects should focus on; preventing violence and bullying and enhancing academic achievement through positive enforcement towards learning. These two specific issues seem to foster each other and by addressing them individually, it becomes apparent that one benefit’s the other. The school would first implement a “anti-bullying” policy. According to Lajoie, McLellan, and Seddon (1997) “Bullying is one of the most underrated and enduring problems in school today” (pg.15). Dan Olweus’s (1992) defines bullying, as “a person being bullied or victimized when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more persons.” The school’s “anti-bullying” policy would consist of three core sections. The first part of the policy would address, a “No Tolerance” system. Bullying would be treated, as a whole. It would address; verbal, physical and relational bullying equally. If a student was involved with any form of bullying, by definition, a warning would be issued during a meeting with the student, the parents, guidance counseling team and school administrator. The student and parent would be offered optional counseling to determine the basis for the student’s actions. If the parent and student declined to participate, the student’s next offense would resolute in the student being removed from the school. The second part of the policy would require teachers to take a course in how to recognize and handle bullying within the school. Parent’s would also, be given the option at the beginning of the school year to attend a similar seminar that would address bullying and it’s victims. It would include information that would help them recognize if their child was becoming a victim and address behaviors that may indicate that their child may be participating in “bullying” behavior.…

School is a very important place for students to develop their skills for their life after school. I also believe that in order to achieve that, you need to be capable to sustain a learning environment. To maximize student effectiveness, I think it is necessary for the students themselves to choose how their learning environment is created.
