Task 3
The term 'ethos' comes from the Greek for custom or habit. Donnelly defines school ethos as ".. the observed practises and interactions of school members... Lots of people would define school ethos as the way a school 'feels'. Dawson defines the school ethos as "What it is that makes your school so special and different from other schools". (Dawson, 2006; pp.2 and 3)
Elliot Park School Mission Statement
The mission statement at Elliot Park School will consist off :
· Give a calm, quiet and efficient working atmosphere whatsoever time, by which all pupils is capable of their maximum potential
· Give a welcoming atmosphere, by which courtesy, kindness and respect are fostered
· Be good Role models for students
· Give a fair and disciplined atmosphere, using the school's behavior policy
· Maintain purposeful and informative planning, documentation and assessment documents, using the school's record-keeping policy and assessment and confirming arrangements
· Manage professional time effectively
· develop links using the wider community
· Provide pupils with significant and purposeful learning activites, associated with the first Years Foundation Stage and also the National Curriculum
· Value and celebrate pupil's success and accomplishments
· Review personal and professinal development to ensure a high level of professional expertise
· Welcome, support and train both teaching and non-teaching students
The school aims to supply essential context within that the school will build up the curriculum. The school aims should encompass these particular broad aims:
· The way the school will give you possibilities for those pupils to understand learn and also to achieve
· The way the school will promote pupil's spirtual, moral, social and cultural development and allow pupils to be more preparied for there life experiences
These two aims reinforce one another. The private growth and development of pupils, emotionally, morally, socially and culturally, plays an essential part within their capability to learn and get. Rise in both areas is important to raising standards of attainment for those pupils.
