My First Day at A University of Khon Kaen
My First Day at A University of Khon Kaen

Have you ever been so excited that your heart can’t stop beaten? That’s show I was on my my first day at the Khon Kaen University. I was very excited, but also I was frightened. I was about to meet people who were going to be with me for four years. I kept asking myself; “would they be nice?” That morning I woke up very early but arrived at the faculty late because I don’t know the schedule of the transport in the university; my body was petrified. I could not even breath, I thought ‘I was bad the first impression’ but the teacher whom I studied the first class didn’t come too. How lucky I am! It was me and a new world. A new group of people with different points of view, different lifestyles. Somehow the air was different because the smell was different from the common. The distance was another important point. All these points made me realize one thing. I’m in a new world. Firstly, I had never been in the North East of Thailand. I don’t know what about this part before, until I come to here, Khon Kaen University, the biggest university in the north east of Thailand. The environment was completely different from the one that I used to live. I come from Bangkok, but on the weekend I mostly stay in Phrae province, a small town in the north of Thailand. This is the first difference for me. The lifestyle of the north and the north east is seemed to close but not. Another important aspect is the lifestyle that they have here. They eat everything especially meat, but I don’t eat meat. All these aspect show me that it’s a different place. I don’t know how, but the environment was completely different from the one that I used to stay. Somehow the air was different because it smells different from the one. Here we find a lot of trees and flowers that give a more rural aspect to the university, and the days here look longer than the common no matter how the weather is. The environment looks completely from other places.

Arriving by bus in Williamsport after saying goodbye to our families was surreal. We had worked so hard for this, I could not believe our dream was now a reality. I was excited, yet nervous and scared about the TV cameras. I had no idea what to expect. I was anxious about meeting our dorm mates who were from Japan; would the language barrier be an issue? I soon realized we would be fine and words are not always necessary to communicate.…

All my fantastic illusions were broken. On the first day of my vocation, I was too busy finding my hotel and protecting myself that I didn’t have time to enjoy the view of this city. I had 30 more days like this ahead of me, and I wondered what I should do to get through those days. I was so anxious that I couldn’t go to sleep even though I was so tired after my sixteen hours of flight and my struggle all the way from the airport to the hotel. Auspiciously, at this time I got a message from my friend, who said that he thought what I was doing was really brave and he envied me having such an opportunity. Then I realized what I had already accomplished. I found my way from the airport to the hotel in an unfamiliar city where most people don’t speak English, without GPS or Internet. A few hours before I had thought that this was impossible. Those proved that I could go further. I realized that if I could do this, I could certainly solve any other problems during my trip.…

For Fraser’s third and final visit, he returned to Rusembilan in the summer of 1964, where he stayed for two months to finalize his fieldwork. While in Rusembilan and neighboring villages, Fraser used the method of ethnographic fieldwork. He conducted interviews which consisted of both structured and unstructured. A total of two surveys were conducted, one took place in 1956 and the second one in 1964. He also asked open-ended, discussion questions to further his…

The days I visited for open house and meeting, I was trembling, scared; nervous. It was tearing apart my world taking this big step I wasn’t ready for, but I had gotten that far, so I held my breath and jumped. In the past 50 years, Bangkok has changed dramatically in many ways. The first improvement deals with technology. In the present, people around the world can connect faster because they have the Internet, and mobile phones. The following improvement facilitate people to run business. In addition, development in surgery is improved so it is safer for people to treat in hospitals. Different from the present, letters were the only way that people could communicate in the distant area. Sending letters spends many days to reach recipients. About medical, doctors had to guess patients’ symptom and treated what patients felt because there were no x-ray machines, ultrasound machines and so on. The second improvement is concerned with transportation. People spend less time going to other places because sky train and subway have high speed. Moreover, merchandise can be transported to other countries because they are transferred by flights. In contrast, trains are still available but there were less speed when they are compared with sky train or subway. People can only transport imported merchandises through ships. Transport by ships took long time and sometimes merchandises were broken. People’s lifestyle is the final difference between the present and the past, people usually work in the office which is located on downtown and central business district. There are a few members in the family because people have a few children. In the past, farming is the main job that people did. Most of the families were large because people had many children and also lived with their relatives. In conclusion, these examples show that everything has changed in Bangkok when technology and progress influence…

Three years ago, I came into a world full of dreams, but these dreams can take you down if you don’t pay good attention. I am the first born in my family. Before I came here, I was so afraid to come to a new country, which I didn’t know any thing about. I was somehow confused, and the biggest fear that I had was about adapting to a new culture. After some days of being at home, I was taken to school where I met so many student, teachers, and other nonteaching staff. Although I didn’t know anyone, all the people I met welcomed me, and I really appreciated the welcome. The school counselor called one of the students and told him to show me my classes. Then the boy took me to my new class, and when I entered, all eyes were on…

When you reach an age to work, the job you want feels like a dream or set goal, no matter the place of rank in the workforce field. At nearly nineteen, I held my first working experience at RHA on second shift. RHA is a company for the mentally disabled and mentally challenged adults. They are located across North Carolina, parts of Tennessee, and Georgia. Founded in 1991, RHA started out as a small cluster group homes in North Carolina to offer support to people with disabilities. The company has since then expanded. Some of the services provided at the RHA facilities include supported living, day programs, respite, and personal care services. I filled application out and I was hired at a group home located in Newton, NC. My memorable first day was filled with: new responsibilities, acquired new knowledge in healthcare, enjoyment, and I was more interested for future plans in healthcare. Choosing this place of business to work was not anything new to me because my step mom has worked there for many years. I was raised around some of the clients that were now in my care and responsibility.…

    Personal Anecdote

It was the last month of July, a couple of weeks before my middle school years ended. I was very anxious because of the idea of leaving my school where I was comfortable with everyone, where my circle of friends were what I looked most forward to when coming to school every day. The day I was going to graduate came closer and closer, I hated how the time was ticking by so fast when I didn’t want it to. I had spent the last 2 years with the same class and teacher, my class mates were like brothers of mine. After all, it was the last time I was going to see my friends Raghav and Karanbir. Weeks flew by as fast as the wings of a humming bird; it was only a few days before the big day, graduation day. As expected the day had arrived, on my way to the banquet hall I felt my head filling up with bizarre scenarios of how it would be like in high school with new teachers, older people and new faces from different school. When I got out of the car I made my way through the main foyer, the banquet hall was decorated so distinctively, I felt as if I were a boy down the hall way of the Queen’s castle ready to be awarded as a Knight. As names were being called to step forward towards the stage, I heard the principal call out “Shreelesh Kaliraj” and I got up with great pride and walked cautiously bit by bit towards her. When she handed me the certificate I was as proud as a father who had just seen his child walk for the very first time. The certificate was 8x10 inches made from stiff hard paper; it had my name written in clear bold letters in the middle of the certificate with a shiny elegant sticker right beside. I quickly walked back to my seat knowing this was the last time I was going to see my close friends, at first I was feeling down due to the fact after this day we would all go separate ways to shape our future but I couldn’t let that thought ruin the entire day for me because at the end I knew meeting new people and making new friends was part of…

I sat frozen on a wooden chair, too nervous to move, as I waited impatiently for my turn. As a high school student taking classes at Rutgers University, I was desperate to feel accepted by my college peers. I stared at the Japanese book in front of me, silently reciting my mini-dialogue, although I already knew the lines by heart. Yet, in the presence of these "strangers" in the room, I felt scared. What if I made a mistake? What if I embarrassed myself? What the heck was I doing there? Anticipating a long semester among these…

I had been waiting for this morning to come for four years. In a few hours it came and went, but it was an important time in my life. Graduation day was the end of one life and the beginning of a new life with different problems, worries and joys. While walking in the theater, I had seen hundreds of parents, grandparents, children, and even alumni students’. My family was there, excited and cheering for me because I had finally made it. I was backstage getting ready for the walk on stage and thinking that I had finally reached the one day that would end college life and start a new life in the workplace.…

In the first year of college, I had to face many new things. I felt nervous and a little excited. I thought, “ it’s my first semester of college in America, try being open-minded.” I imagined many bad and good situations, and how to deal with them because I thought it would relieve my perturbation, but it was not. I was getting more afraid and more nervous. I kept struggling with those thoughts for a whole first semester. Walking through the class’s door, with people speaking a new language, I saw people greeting, talking, having fun… They looked excited and happy. In opposition, I sat alone in the…

My First Day on a New Job

    • 700 Words

The beginning is a place where we all have to start at some point in our lives. It could be the beginning of a marriage, a relationship, a business, a pregnancy, or a job. The one thing all these relationships would have in common is that you don’t know what it’s going to be like. We all have our expectations; in courtship, before marriage, research and planning, before starting a business, and the interview before starting the job. Not even the interview and the expectations of my job role, would have prepared me for the strange task I was faced with on my first day on a new job.…
