Personal Narrative: The Day I Went To Early High School
One accompaniment, joining into Early College High School, has effectively marked my transition into adulthood. From the day in eighth I held that brown envelope in my hands that read “CONGRATULATIONS” to now when I hold the weight of responsibility and expectation on my shoulders, I knew this was the transition. The days I visited for open house and meeting, I was trembling, scared; nervous. It was tearing apart my world taking this big step I wasn’t ready for, but I had gotten that far, so I held my breath and jumped. The day that school actually started, I wanted to toss in the rag, oh but mother didn’t let me. Everyone was so proud of me, and raised their expectation, which now is crushing me into the ground. I couldn’t quit, even though

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Crisp, golden light creeped out from behind my curtains into my bedroom on a cool Fall morning, rising me up from my sleep. Once I had gotten myself dressed, I shuffled downstairs to my kitchen and poured myself some life cereal and milk. As soon as I had finished the rest of my daily routine that got me ready for school, my mom drove me and my sister off to Finley Farms, which was the school we attended. The school day went by as usual and slinked away, but after a few subjects my class, along with the other 5th graders, were led by our teachers downstairs to a room where we were greeted by a woman who told us she was Mrs.Sopeland. The fifth graders all sat down in a semi-circle formation and waited for the rest of the 5th grade classes.…

Jackie Robinson once said “This ain't fun but watch me get it done”. I had always been at a small school my entire life until seventh grade, when I decided to change schools. I was the new kid, and I didn’t know anyone, and nobody knew me, but I made friends in that two years of middle school. I had never been through a transition like that in my entire life, but when I am older I can look back on it and say that I did it.…

During my current four years of high school, I have come to a conclusion that life is hard and the decisions you make are very important. This is my last year of high school and I’m the first one to graduate from my family. My grandmother tends to tell me that I don’t need college just a simple 7 month course of medical assistant or dentist assistant and not waste any more money. I’m lost, I wish people could help me out and tried to guide me in the direction of the right decision but is my life and choices. There has been times that my grandmother has told me that I am not going to be somebody in the future.…

Middle School. My first steps into the “North Building” and I was terrified. There was moisture in the air and the carpets were moist from being freshly shampooed. It almost smelled like a new house, even though that building was as old as Abraham Lincoln if he were still alive.…

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

Once I entered high school I faced countless traumatic family and financial problems. My father was not allowed to live with us, our house became foreclosed, and my mother was out of work. Throughout my years of high school, I have worked to help keep my mother’s head above the drowning financial pressure. I felt alone and hopeless during these difficult times. Each morning it felt as if the world had put a new burden on my shoulder to carry, making it harder and harder to get out of bed, to be productive at school and succeed. However, it is these morning I am most thankful for now. I knew how easy it was to give up on myself, and my dreams when no one was looking. I knew how easy it was to dish out excuse after excuse for why I wasn't applying…
