Personal Narrative: My Journey To James Madison University
In 2010 after years of dreaming and hard work, my team made it to the Little League World Series! That experience taught me so much about myself and the value of commitment. Arriving by bus in Williamsport after saying goodbye to our families was surreal. We had worked so hard for this, I could not believe our dream was now a reality. I was excited, yet nervous and scared about the TV cameras. I had no idea what to expect. I was anxious about meeting our dorm mates who were from Japan; would the language barrier be an issue? I soon realized we would be fine and words are not always necessary to communicate. Seeing it on TV does not accurately describe what it was like, cameras everywhere, TV interviews, thousands of people in the stands, people asking us to sign autographs. The atmosphere was carnival like …show more content…
I visited JMU for the first time this past summer and fell in love and when I went back in the fall it solidified everything I first felt. I cannot explain it, but it felt like home and exactly where I want to be. I love the school spirit, seeing kids everywhere, studying in groups or just hanging out all over campus. What stood out to me most aside from the beautiful campus was that everyone was so friendly and no one was alone everyone seemed to be involved in something. James Madison embodies everything I want in a school! I learned so many life lessons that summer but most important I learned that with drive and determination, regardless of roadblocks, I can achieve anything. That determination and focus has helped me in dealing with my dyslexia and to achieve academic goals which I did not think were possible. My goal is to take all that I have learned and utilize it to become involved in all that JMU has to offer and be a successful contributor to the James Madison University

I am an 18 year old finishing up her freshman year of college. As well as playing on a collegiate soccer team. I am living on campus experiencing living on my own away from family and getting the ”opportunity” in making life decisions with little help from my parents. As a typical collegiate athlete student, I am overwhelmed with homework, sports, and trying to fit in a “life” here. As well as running on little sleep because of school catching up with me. Grace University has caused many stressful moments throughout this year, but that comes with any typical college. Classes, practices, games, SLT’s, and chapels so far have been the only part of my life and my structure at Grace. I am not generally from here, but because my dad’s side of the…

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

Even though this was a devastating moment in my life it was a real wake up call for me. I needed to get my life on track and I am going to do that by working as hard as I possibly can! I will go to a great college, work my butt off, and get a degree and a job I can be proud of, and Ill do whatever it takes to achieve these goals and most definitely I think Jacksonville University would be the place to do such. After touring the university I realized this is the place for me! I loved everything about, I felt at home. The campus, academics, and athletics everything was outstanding. A few thing that caught my eye on the campus was the amazing view of the Saint Johns river especially from the beautifully remodeled River House. Also everyone i met that day had such a positively and friendly attitude something like that is really hard to find! When talking academics I was extremely impressed with what I was told and what I found researching. With my intended major to be business finding out it was one of the universities signature programs was just icing on the cake.and with the 4+1 program they offer you can graduate in just five years with both a bachelors and an MBA which I found…

When I first started at Napa College, I knew that getting involved was going to be very important. However, I didn't know it was going to be a lot more complicated on my behalf to do so. This is because, when I first came to Napa Valley college, I had also just obtained my first job. The job which would allow me to help sustain myself and help my family financially. I was not used to this type of schedule when I first came into Napa College. This Is because I didn't know how to manage my time, and simply didn't know what to make as my major primary. I was confused whether to make school or make work a primary. So, I ended up making them both as a priory, which meant dedicating half and half to each. Later on, I found out that I didn't have…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

One of the biggest bumps in the road during my academic carrier was during junior year when I got denied acceptance into NHS. I received a short black and white letter stating that I did not have a high enough GPA and I had “weak course load”. Keep in mind the requirement for acceptance was a 3.5 GPA and at the time I had a 3.6 GPA. I was simply outraged and discouraged. I talked with my mother shortly after, she told me she never got accepted into NHS either; I was not going to accept rejection. I began to ask some teachers about what they thought, the majority sided with me on questioning why I did not get in. So I wrote a six paragraph reply asking for a better explanation as to why I was rejected, I had also stated how I met the requirements for every…
