Moses: Hagiography Vs. Historiography
Moses was historically a great leader of the Jewish people, but did he truly part the Red Sea? And Jesus was a teacher, however, there are those who believe he was the Son of God; others believe he was just a wise prophet.
This is what defines hagiography versus historiography. While historiography gives us the facts about people and the chronological events that have taken place in our past, hagiography gives us meaning behind these and allow them to shape religion. Without hagiography I don't believe that the ancient religions, such as Judaism, could have survived. I believe this for a couple of reasons: first, these religions are ancient and there is little “hard” evidence to back up some of the oldest stories. Second, while some events
