Lyrics To Harsh Realms
Harsh Realms
The song that makes me feel as though it was written about me, for me, is Harsh Realms by Tom Gable of Against Me! Every line in this masterpiece of acoustic punk speaks to me. The song is about being forced into adulthood whether you are ready or not. He talks about how every decision you make shapes your future, and makes you question what you will do with your life. The song is short, it consist of verse one, verse 2, and a chorus.
Verse one, tells about my hopeless feeling. “I'm waking up in night terrors, can't stop the future, keeps pushing me ahead.” This reminds me of my sleepless nights, staying up thinking and worrying about everything. We can't stop out futures and we all have to grow up. “I feel the weight of the world

“There's a million things to get done today. I can't calm down, I can't think straight. You give a little bit of time everyone you meet, but what do you say for yourself ” This speaks to my anxiety, worrying that I have so much to do everyday. All the while keeping up a façade to everyone I come in contact with to pretend I'm ok. Anytime I let my emotions slip, people don't want to hear me complain. They want the normal joking happy person they've come to expect. I give myself to anyone one who needs me, I hate myself but I strive to make others ok. So when Tom says “what do you say for yourself?” I can only respond with “I do not know.” I've been so unhappy for so long that I help people to make myself feel better. “How much money do you need, To give yourself a sense of security?” These are the lines that speak to me most. I don't need a mansion, an exoctic car, or spinning rims on a gold jet ski. I just want a comfortable house, being able to pay all my bills, with a little left over, and someone who cares about me. I feel like more people should ask themselves this question. When I hear people striving for nothing more than to make a lot of money, it sickens me. Yes, money makes life easier, but it comes at a cost. People can use you, or you could blow it all and become your own …show more content…
“Yeah, it's a harsh realm, don't abandon me.” The “harsh” realm being the world around us, and how extremely difficult it is to get through this life alone. He states to everyone in his life “don't abandon me.” After losing almost all of my close friends, not being close with my family, and going through an awful breakup with my girlfriend of 3 years, I have felt alone. This song brings me to tears anytime I try to perform it for people. I can't get past the chorus, because I really want people to know I mean it when I say don't abandon me. Though it feels like they already have. I see familiar faces in the crowd and they don't really listen, just watch. The world is such a tough place for anyone, but feeling alone while you go through everything bad, makes it so much

Before I start this analysis, I would like to point out that this interpretation of this song will be biased in two ways. I am a Christian and my interpretation will be based on my beliefs. My second bias is that I think that this band is one of the most lyrically powerful bands ever and is honestly probably my favorite band right now.…

All though my parents never got a divorce I feel a connection with different pieces of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he expressed his emotions throughout the song in words I would have never thought of using. The song is very vocal with a quite instrumental background that ties it all together, he uses so much emotion and power in his singing that it’s hard not to feel the same emotions he is feeling in this song. He talks about his parents fighting and him trying to keep them together which I feel like most children have tried to do when their parents are fighting.…

“There are people out there who have a much harder life than I do, and all I can say to them is that they are much stronger than I. To those of you with abusive parents, or school bullies, to the people out there with money problems or fear of the future, to the women with cheating husbands and the men with whoring wives, to the children who think that their lives aren’t worth living, I say to you; keep moving forward. For my sake, and the sake of those who fell to their own hands before me, for the sake of the people who thought life was too scary… keep living!…

“There is one story and one story only / That will prove worth your telling”. The first two lines deal with human life. You have only one life to live and what you do with the time you are given is completely up to you. It also deals with the fact that everyone wants to be remembered so you need to make sure that your life is one worth talking about. “Such common stories as they stray into.” Everyone starts the same, we are all born as a baby and as we grow up we go down different roads living different lives in hopes that when we are gone that we will be remembered for something we did. “Or the Zodiac and how slow it turns” Time continues on at a slow and steady pace that we can either take advantage of it or we can let it be as “strange beasts that beset you”. “So each new victim treads unfalteringly/ The never altered circuit of his fate / Bringing twelve peers as witness/ Both to his starry rise and starry fall.” These lines take on a sense that we are all going to be judged at the end of our lives. Saying how each of us live our lives without knowing the future, but we are in a supposed predetermined fate that has already decided whether we will “rise” as in go to heaven, or “fall” to go to hell. “Or of the undying snake from chaos hatched,” the undying snake is an allusion to Satan who deceived Eve into committing the sin against God thus creating the first forms of chaos in the world. “Battles three days and nights,” alludes to the three days after Jesus was crucified when the…

I have chosen to research this song and video as they are the embodiment of the sub-culture that is the main target audience for the 'emocore' genre. This song seemingly calls out to those who are sick and tired of being told to conform to societal norms, either by their parents or peers. This is a very 'emo' message to convey, as the target audience of emotionally troubled teens feel that they can relate to it in that they feel those around them try to force them into normality, not allowing them to express their emotional side. This song allows for the conveyance of those emotions in a very powerful manner, with the singer verging on screaming the lyrics in the chorus, which is a popular feature of heavier 'emocore' music. This idea is very much reflected in the lyrics with talk of expectations and 'pressure', also with the singer wanting to be 'more like me and less like you'. The lyrical style is very personal; reading almost as if it is a letter to a parent or peer who the sender is trying to break away from.…

The mood of this story is gloomy. In lines 7-9, it says, “I grieve each dawn wandered where my lord, my first on earth, might be, then I went forth a friendless exile.” This quote talks about how she wondered why the lord took her husband away from her; now she don't have anyone. In lines 40-41, it talks about one of the imagery; it says, “from this care of heart, which belongs to me ever nor all this longing, that has caught me in this life”. I believe this quote talks about is that she realize why she is in the state that she is in. The theme is exile, love, and…

As I listened more and more to this song the melody moves me. It brings such a positive tone to whatever I may be doing. Me and my friend always refer back to this song when one of us are feeling down. To remind the other that we are not alone and that we will have the others back no matter the condition. Everyone has times when they are upset and feel alone. They have “seen monsters chasing dreams”. That is why this song is so great. Because everyone can relate to it in one way or another. Remember that you are not alone, but that you are…

The words speak to me in a certain connection that even with the words at hand, my fingers can’t fully convey the emotions I feel. That at any point in our life we feel that emotion, the one that where you sit or stand you can feel it, a certain string tugging at you heart. You are aware of that potential, thrumming under you skin, rising, shaking trying to be set free.Never pulling with its strength, but nagging, begging to be felt, heard and understood. Under our feet a thousands steps can be taken, and each step we take can lead us to so many destinations that we are hesitant never sure if the next step is the one that can lead us to a success or disappointment. A sensation that the stars are not that far, you know there are ways to reach them, the take those stars as yours. It's the feeling of having the strumming strength of doing the impossible, our emotions, passions can lead us, this we recognize, here this is a cold realization. We become afraid, scared of what can, could happen if you were to follow. Great things may come about, whether it is good or bad will be unclear, regardless it will be…

I would skip school to avoid the fear of failure. I had fallen far behind in my classes and was feeling overwhelmed. I would feel so guilty and shameful that I could not be a “normal” teenager like everyone else. These feelings led me to believe that I did not belong anywhere and that I was causing too many problems for my family. I ran away from home in October of 2010, alone and out of place. The feeling that no one would care if I left and that my family would just be upset with me compelled me to run as fast I…
