Level 3 Children and Young Peoples Workforce
SCH 31: Promote communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings.

1.1. Identify the different reasons people communicate. 1.2. Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting.

In this assignment I will be describing ways of why people communicate and how communication affects relationships in the work setting.

1.1.
There are loads of reasons why people communicate, people communicate to build relationships with one and other, make friends also gain trust, and it’s all part of good practice.
In my work placement we communicate with the children and parents by using eye contact and talking to them in a polite manner whilst welcoming them into our setting, then we all sit down to do circle time I talk to the children by asking them what there have done at home or what they would like to do in the setting such as craft, play outside, play in the crèche room, read story’s etc. then we will all sing our welcome song such as “hello Toby how are you, hello Oliver how are you hello everybody how are you, how are you today” . I communicate with the parents by talking about their child and telling them positive things that the child has been doing throughout the setting, I also use eye contact so that they know that I’m taking interest in working with their children, I think that communication is a good thing to have in a setting because without communication it wouldn’t be a good practice.

To express needs and feelings
To gain reassurance and acknowledgement
To gain and share information
To maintain relationships
To build relationships
Why people communicate

Building relationships When a new parent, child, young person joins the setting for the first time the first thing that will happen is some form of communication, in my setting we always greet the new parent, child or visitor with a smile and a welcome greeting and we make sure we be very accommodating.
