I knew this curriculum would be challenging but I also knew that I was ready for it. My study habits and ability to keep up with my advanced classes will help me prepare for the Lyceum. I am drawn to this curriculum for more than just one reason. This curriculum will broaden my understand and expand my knowledge. I know that without education, you as a human being wouldn’t be opened to the controversies of our nation. I always finish what I start. If I am working on a project, it would be very hard for me to leave it. It is the same if I am striving for something I am not going to give up just because people are saying it’s too hard. Organization has helped me as a individual and I believe that it is a quality that every member of the lyceum should have. If you do not plan and organize yourself by beginning with the end in mind, you will fall behind in your studies. I know and strongly believe that a student who deserves to be in the Lyceum is a student who takes their education life seriously. A student who deserves to be in the Lyceum doesn't relinquish their dreams because something might be blocking them. I am a dedicated student who will not give up her dream to be in the Lyceum no matter what people will say. I have a positive attitude and this attitude helps me to achieve my goals. A student who will take the work seriously is someone who deserves to be the Lyceum. I believe I am the student who deserves to be in the

My parents first heard about the new program in the middle of my fifth grade year. Because of the program’s objective, my parents were convinced to enroll me in the program. A week after the interviewing process I was accepted to attend the program. When I first arrived, I notice how the school was smaller than other schools. I also found the environment of the school quite peculiar to what I was immune to. A month later I was one of many students being prepared for college. All three years, as being a Risley student, the program was given a report on its outstanding performances.…

I would like to be part of William Penn Honors Program for a multitude of reasons. First, and foremost, I love to learn. I especially love history and reading the great writers and thinkers of history. I believe the William Penn Honors Program will be a rigorous, but rewarding experience, where I can learn from these great thinkers of history by pondering the ideas of the ancients and our forefathers and applying them to life today. Additionally, education is important, however, as the proverb states, “Knowledge without wisdom is futile.” Therefore, another reason I want to be part of the William Penn Honors Program is the stated emphasis on honing your critical thinking skills and deepening your understanding and cultural awareness. Also,…

The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken Advanced Placement and Honors classes and have done very well in them. Being average is not okay for me, I want to do my best and reach my fullest potential in everything I do. I like being challenged mentally and that is exactly what the Honors Program will do for me. In the Honors Program I will be able to engage in social and cultural seminars that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. I have been a part of Diversity Club where different cultures come together to share ideas, exchange food, and get to know more about each others’ culture, so I have an idea of what seminars are like. I am a very outgoing person and I love to meet and interact with new people so through these seminars and projects I will be able to do that. I would also like to get a broader perspective on the world and throughout the many different projects, I will gain that. I read about the Honors Program and what will be done throughout the four years and I thought to myself that this is where I belong, I will fit right in. I want to accomplish many things that this program will allow me to and greatness is what I would like to aim for. I have become fond of the liberal arts education The College of Charleston offers, which emphasizes exploration into all areas of academia. An example of this would be the honors history courses that interest me, as I enjoy learning beyond my focus of science, and into other areas that create an appreciation for society’s diversity. One of the many aspects of the Honors College I find engaging are the academic opportunities unique to the Honors College that allow students to develop in their major interests, but also diversify their knowledge in all areas, as the academic requirements extend from calculus to western civilization. The opportunities the Honors College extends to its students are what make it appealing to me, and my experience so far in college has led me to believe that I am the right fit for the Honors College, as it would help me develop as a person, and help me achieve my…

Successful students get involved in their studies, accept responsibility for their own education, and are active participants in it! Responsibility is the difference between leading and being led. Active classroom participation improves grades without increasing study time. You can sit there, act bored, daydream, or sleep. Or you can actively listen, think, question, and take notes like someone in charge of their learning experience. Either option costs one class period. However, the former method will require a large degree of additional work outside of class to achieve the same degree of learning the latter provides at one sitting.…
