William Penn Honors Program
I would like to be part of William Penn Honors Program for a multitude of reasons. First, and foremost, I love to learn. I especially love history and reading the great writers and thinkers of history. I believe the William Penn Honors Program will be a rigorous, but rewarding experience, where I can learn from these great thinkers of history by pondering the ideas of the ancients and our forefathers and applying them to life today. Additionally, education is important, however, as the proverb states, “Knowledge without wisdom is futile.” Therefore, another reason I want to be part of the William Penn Honors Program is the stated emphasis on honing your critical thinking skills and deepening your understanding and cultural awareness.     The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student.     There are many ways one may contribute to their society. Some people may use their intelligence in order to advance society; some may lead the country to be a better future; some may make the world to be a better place just by being in it; and some may volunteer their time to help others. It’s difficult to find one person who possesses and contributes all of these qualities, but I am sure I do. Because the standards for entrance into the Junior Honors Society are leadership, scholarship, character, and service, I believe that I am more qualified for entrance into an organization as prestigious as the Junior Honors Society. Throughout my years as a Meridian Public Charter School student, I believe that I have demonstrated all of these attributes. First and foremost, I am an excellent scholar.
