Johnny Houser: My Extraordinary Life
In August 1971, two young girls played on a second story hotel landing in Lincoln, Nebraska. Eleven-year-old Cheryl became bored with their game and suggested they try something else. She looked over at the hotel dumbwaiter, a service lift rigged to transport laundry, and suggested they ride it down to the basement. Chrissy hopped in first and scooted to the back. As Cheryl ducked her head inside, Chrissy pressed the button, causing the dumbwaiter to slam down on Cheryl’s neck, pinning her against the frame. As Chrissy screamed, Cheryl lost consciousness but recalls, “I was encompassed with white light, then I hit a dimension where I was in total darkness. I passed through into a place where I saw the ancestors of my family, and I could hear …show more content…
In her first line she said she was contacting me because she had a real story to tell. Intrigued, we began a month long email correspondence that resulted in a four hour video interview. As a self-described medium, psychic, and clairvoyant, Cheryl doesn’t just have one story; she has many.
According to “The Science of Near-Death Experiences” written by Gideon Lichfield and published in a 2015 issue of The Atlantic, “Many NDErs report that their experience did not feel like a dream or a hallucination but was, as they often describe it, ‘more real than real life.’ They are profoundly changed afterward. ”

I started to see a dark box, a casket, and there was my brother Pat, in the casket. I wondered why it was happening, so I told my mom. She thought I just had a bad

In 1979, when Frank D’Amico was staying in the mansion his wife experienced something rather bizarre. It was late in the night and she was preparing to climb into her bed when she saw what looked like a dark figure standing at the foot of her bed. It seemed to be coming straight towards her in a strange gliding motion. Panicking, she found the lamp on her bedside table and turned it on. As the light flickered, it illuminated all corners of the bedroom and there was nobody there. Whatever dark figure that had sent chills down her spine had vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.…

One night we were at Emili Lewis’s house. A few of us girls wanted to try to stay up all night. It had been raining so we decided we wanted to go for a drive. This point of the night it was like 1:30 a.m. We drove for a little while before we got bored. We decided to brainstorm some ideas of stuff to do. We decided we wanted to go out to Box Canyon in Kaitlin’s truck to look at the stars. It took us a little while to get everything put together. We finally started heading out there at 3:00 a.m. On the way out there we passed a truck. The truck was very short, matte black, and had a circle light bar in between the headlights. None of us recognized the truck and we got a little nervous. We decided to ignore it and keep going. For the rest of the drive we talked about boys, problems, and then we started talking about scary stuff. When we got out there we were too scared to get out of the truck, so we turned around and started back into town. We got…

I woke up in the middle of the night to a whistling sound. I sat up and looked around, it was 2:00 in the morning. Suddenly, a book fell off of a nearby shelf all by itself. I quickly got up and went to find Viviane. It appears she is having the same ghostly experiences that I had. We wanted to get out of this creepy house, so we ran to the verandah. When we got there we saw a strand of beads hanging on the railing. I snatched them up and they began to glow. All of the sudden, we were both picked up by two ghosts, that were both women. They hovered in the air for a minute then took off, carrying us through the skies. We came to what looked like another plantation, and they dropped us in a grass clearing, and disappeared. We were so tired; we lay down and fell asleep before we could explore our new…

Since humans have had the ability to reason, many have been curious about what truly happens after one leaves the physical world for good. According to certain religions, reincarnation or going to heaven are among the most popular concepts for what occurs after death. An Article titled “Beyond Death: The Science of the Afterlife” written by Lisa Miller, Director of Clinical Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, shows possibilities of life continuing after death by describing the experiences certain individuals have claimed to have seen during a near-death experience (NDE).
