The lives and teachings of two of the most influence figures in Catholicism and Judaism, Moses and Jesus, have many similarities, yet important differences. Though both individuals were chosen by God to help spread the good word and lead their people to salvation, their teaching methods as well as some of their actions, were different. Both figures devoted their life to spreading the word of God and helping others live a life that will ultimately lead to eternal salvation.
One of the most significant similarities between the lives of Moses and Jesus was that they were chosen by God to be a leader and help others follow him. They, however, went about helping others in different ways. Jesus is …show more content…
These parables often were told to teach the listener a moral lesson. These parables are some of the most quoted and remembered stories in modern religion. Because of how his stories and characters would captivate the attention of his followers, he was able to educate them in a way they would enjoy and remember. (Hopfe 275) Moses, however, used different methods for his followers. Instead of using parables, Moses wrote down a list of commandments that were given to him by God. Both Jesus and Moses, although their teachings appear more prominently in Christianity, were born as Hebrew Jews. They both took their religious beliefs very seriously and lived extremely pious lives. Both of their beliefs and teachings ultimately ended up shaping and creating a new religion, born out of an existing religion. Because of both Jesus and Moses, Judaism was ultimately revised and of this revision, Christianity was born. Another similarity in their lives was that both Jesus and Moses had communicated directly with God. Both Moses and Jesus also devoted much of their life to saving their people. Moses saved his people from the Egyptians, bringing them into the Promised Land. Jesus used his 12 disciples to help him save his people and give them the Promised Land.(Hopfe 274) Moses was determined to help rescue his people from lives of slavery under a cruel Pharaoh in Egypt, while Jesus was determined to save his people from sin. In fact, Jesus ultimately gave up his life to help save his followers from sin. Moses also was willing to give up his life for the salvation of his followers.
