Exodus Movie Analysis
I believe that Ridley Scott did not accurately portray the biblical version of the Hebrew Exodus. Many things portrayed in the movie either didn’t happen in the bible or were very different than the Exodus. Some examples would be that Moses had a different personality in the movie, Moses didn’t perform the three miracles, God wasn’t a little boy, and several other things. These are a few of the problems that lead the movie away from the text.
In the Exodus passage, Moses was a timid man and when God first asked him to go to Israel, he denied and said he wasn’t worthy. He believed God should choose someone else in place of him. Moses had to become courageous and confident to do what God had asked of him. The movie, on the other hand, has Moses as a

Although there was a burning bush in the movie, it was not portrayed as God, but instead a little boy. In the biblical passage of the Exodus, Moses meets God through the burning bush and speak to him through that. With that being said, in the movie, God seems unreliable many times and leaves Moses with uncertainty of what will happen. In the Exodus passage, Moses knows exactly what will happen, because God tells him what he plans on doing. Each time God brings a plague, he lets Moses know ahead of time. Moses is never uncertain about God’s doing and has faith in him.
Another important thing to note, would be the way Moses gains the israelites faith and belief in him. In the Exodus passage, Moses is given a staff which would help him perform miracles that would help him prove that he has in fact, spoken to God. His miracles which he would perform would be turning the staff into a snake, getting and healing sickness in his hand, and turning water from the nile into blood. These signs were never performed by Moses in the movie, and the Israelites already had faith in him, but Moses didn’t have faith in

The literal parallels between Neo and Moses are similar and share a related background in the beginning to middle of their stories, but both diverge from their actions towards the cause very differently. To start, both of the heroes start out in their normal lives and are introduced to their true destinies sometime in the middle of the stories and discover their purpose. Both main characters start out as slaves, Moses in Exodus is the son of a Hebrew slave and Neo is a slave to the system controlled by the Machines. Both heroes have a similar goal they are tasked, but are set up differently from each other. In Exodus, Moses encounters God from the burning bush and is given the task to save all the Hebrew slaves from Pharaoh’s reign and bringing them to Mount Sinai. In The Matrix however, it is Neo that is rescued from a chase with “The Agents” (bad guys of the film) and is brought…

The next difference that can be found is the portrayal of who found the baby in the basket. Exodus 2:5-6 tells that the Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the river bathe. She spotted the basket among the reeds and sent her attendants to fetch it to her. The Pharaoh’s daughter knew the baby was a Hebrew baby as soon as she opened the basket and saw the crying baby. Exodus 2:6 is the only place in the Bible that tells of an infant crying. In the movie version of the story, it is the Pharaoh’s wife that finds baby Moses in the basket. This change makes a dramatic change to the dynamics of the story later in the movie.…

The theme of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is their use of plot. This is because the story shows us that taking chances and being adventurous with life helps you discover new and exciting things. The thing that the filmmakers are trying to tell us is to go out and experience these new things so that you can make the most out of life like Indiana Jones but not to be too reckless like the people that opened the ark and payed the price for it. This lesson is successful because it’s demonstrating the excitement of exploring the world in search of new finds that are interesting and could benefit the world. If I were the director of this film however I wouldn’t have left a kind of cliffhanger at the end of the film that left some unanswered questions…

In the first scene we were positioned to grow an instant dislike to Moses and his friends, this was mainly because the way they were presented in front of the camera. For example, it was dark and they were all wearing hoodies and had bandanas to cover their faces, this instantly hints trouble. Then they went on to steal from an innocent woman (Sam) and the way the camera was positioned on this scene was to show how helpless she was, as the camera looked down on her, this automatically gives the audience a perspective that she has less power than Moses and his friends.…

The movie’s interpretation of Genesis 6-9 followed a “gnostic mysticism” approach rather having its imagery and references based on Christian mythology. The movie was not a valid interpretation because it’s interpretation came across as a fantasy and action movie that depicts one man’s arduous epic of being God’s hand by cleansing the world of all the evil in the world whilst being a father figure in his family. The movie unnecessarily had characters that were never actually mentioned in the Bible such as “The Watchers”. These fallen angel stone monster didn’t have a place in the original written version and are entirely irrelevant to telling the theme of the story. The movie itself was often distracting to what the purpose of the story was…

The story portrayed in the movie is based on the book of Exodus in the Bible. It tells the life a man named Moses, who originally born a Hebrew slave, is brought up as the noble son of the Pharaoh. Through a series of events Moses ultimately abandons his pampered lifestyle and chooses to side with the Hebrews to free them from slavery and religious persecution brought on to them by Egyptians. His story is prominent from both religious and cultural point of views. Not only did it prove to Jewish people the miracles of their God but Moses single handedly freed all the Hebrews in Egypt at that time.…
