Infant Observation Paper
Physical Growth:

1) Andrew is about 26 inches tall and weighs about 15,5 lbs. He has blond hair and beautiful big blue eyes. His little arms and legs are chunky. In proportion to his body his head seems to be bigger but it`s not.
2) When I was doing my observation he was playing.

Perception:

3) Vision: Andrew mostly observes objects with bright colors for about 30 seconds before he drops it to find the next curious object. When put down onto the floor he crawls right towards the toys, telling me that he prefers colors.
As I move a toy in front of his face side to side, he follows it with his eyes and his head. When I play some music he turns his head towards the source of the sound and starts to crawl closer to the music.
4)

He doesn`t use the toys or materials as they were ment to be used. It`s more of a listen or examine time at this age.

Language Development:

14) He produces loud sounds to get attention.
15)Examples of the sounds he makes: “ada-ada-ada” when he was happy to see the plastic house,
“ah-ah-ah” when I talk to him and it looks like he want to talk to me back,
“bah-bah-bah” when he wants attention or when he express him self.
16) At this age Andrew doesn`t seem to understand language. However certain sounds may have a meaning to him.
17) He communicates through his motor actions and when he is tired, hungry etc. he starts to cry.

Social and Emotional Development:

18) Andrew is a very happy baby. He always has a smile on his face. When I play with him Pecka-boo or doing something funny, he laughs and giggles.
I don`t really know how he would respond to a stranger because there is nobody that he wouldn`t know in my Day Care.
I was very surprised that this little baby wasn`t sad when his mom left him with me to go to work.
19) Andrew seems to be very trusting. When I was holding him for the first time he was just smiling at me. And when my husband held him he just did the same. What a happy baby.

After doing the Baby Project, I’ve definitely understand how big of a responsibility having a child is like. I also want to thank my parents for being extremely responsible and caring for me. It has been difficult trying to hold my books and my iPad, having my backpack on, and also carrying the baby at the same time. During classes I also had to make room on my desk or put things elsewhere so I can put the baby somewhere safe. I also had to wash the baby clothes because it gets dirty really easily. It’s definitely been a wild experience.…

The child I observed was male and approximately one and a half years old. This was a natural observation; the place was at my home in the bedroom of my apt. I was the only person in the room. To my knowledge and what I have observed was Martrell. The time of observation was at 2:00 until 3:00pm. Martrell was playing with his toys by himself when the observation began. A few minutes later Martrell went to a shelf and pulled down everything on the shelf. As he was pulling them off the shelf he then looked at me and smiled, after the smile he decided to pick them up off the floor and put them back. I asked Martrell if he wanted to play with his toy doggy. This toy doggy teaches him his shapes, ABCs, 123s, and how to sing. He went into the front room area, and grabbed the doggy and jumped on top of it to ride it around and then he started to play with the doggy. Martrell played with the doggy without any complaints. Then I asked him if he want to eat, and he repeated back to me( eat, eat,) which means yes he wants something to eat.…

It was a lovely winter on Christmas day, while my family got together to open all the beautifully wrapped gifts with elegant ribbons and sparkling decorations on them, somebody knocked the door. I had a feeling that it would be my boyfriend, and I rushed to see who it was. Butterflies rushed through my stomach as I opened the door; I saw his bright smile and fancy clothes. As soon as I looked down I saw a brown basket wrapped in a yellow cloth on the top and I was curious what it was.…
