I have chosen to present my reflective report using Driscoll’s model (2007) of reflection because it is a developmental model that includes all the core skills of reflection: description, self-awareness, critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis; it consists in three stages in reflecting on one’s practice: ‘what?’ ‘so what?’ ‘now what?’. These trigger questions give a broad and substantial reflective process by challenging a more in depth examination, resulting in an action plan for the future (Bulman & Schutz,…

Reflective practice is essential as an Assessor as this leads to a greater understanding of how to improve. Self-assessment is something that an assessor should be constantly engaged in as it seeks to increase the depth of understanding of the process of assessment and a perpetual identification of gaps in knowledge that can assist the assessor and help those being assessed. Critical analysis and evaluation refocuses thinking on existing knowledge and helps generate new knowledge and ideas. Ultimately reflective practice enables an assessor to improve the quality of their performance by looking objectively at their skills and professional judgement, in both successes and failures and applying them to their continual professional development,…

Developing a reflective capacity – Independent Study Activities to assist you in the completion of your reflective learning logs and essays. Introduction A central aim of this unit is to provide you with an opportunity to develop your reflective capacity. What do we mean by the term “reflective capacity"? It means that you have the ability, and most importantly, the willingness, to reflect. Reflection is a form of thinking - about some event or experience with a view to changing how we might act, react or generally learn from that experience. You might realise that you could have interpreted a situation differently or could have done something more effectively. This awareness may lead to a change in what you do, or how you see things, in the future. Clearly, this is a capacity that we would expect all professionals to develop. The learning log We expect you to keep a learning log during the course. The purpose of the learning log is to give you the time and space to reflect on your learning during the module. This guidance handout provides you with a series of activities to help you ‘get started’. We would expect that as you develop your reflective capacity you will become more self-aware, self-critical, and open to change. You may find that your motivation changes as a result of reflection - you may be surprised at how much you are learning, and this may encourage you to experiment and learn yet more. Activity 1: Week 1 – Setting up your learning log In order to work out the best way to do this, you need to know what we expect you to do. As a bare minimum we suggest that you write in your log once a week: reflecting on • • • the lecture the tutorial; and on any group or individual study activities.…

For my finial reflection I have decided to reflect on the reflective practice itself and my abilities to practice reflection, as it appears I am having some issues with the process. After receiving an A- on my last reflection, I spoke with my Faculty Advisor (FA) with the intention of discovering why I was not achieving marks in the A+ range on my reflections, and what I need to work on to improve on the quality of my reflections. Her feedback was that I was too broad in my approach; I spend too much time discussing the event and did not go into enough depth in my reflective analysis. I hope and anticipate that this reflection will be better; as I hope to demonstrate a deeper analysis of the issue and techniques I can use to improve my skills.…
