History Is Not a Usless Subject.
History is not a useless subject History is defined to many as the study of past event, on a local, regional and international scale. Often, these are landmark events, such as riots, wars or declarations of independence. (Oxford Dictionaries, 2012) The study of the subject encapsulates developing an understanding of its causes, and the resulting impacts.
My primary reason which explains why the subject is not useless is related to what is mentioned above. A study of the past gives us an understanding of how our civilization have progressed succinctly, how knowledge of our heritage flows smoothly, and most importantly, how our sense of belonging in this world is connected effectively . (Serial Construction) Its epochal role is recognized through the Chinese saying “When one drinks water, one should remember its source”. (Wiktionary, 2012) In essence, this means that History is a source that serves as a constant reminder and appreciation, not a source to be often forgotten and undermined. (Balanced pairs)
An example of such a reminder would be the Japanese Occupation of Singapore from 1942 to 1945. Realizing that the foreign forces could not be relied on to protect the national interest of Singapore, the government passed the Enlistment Act in 1967 to provide military defence for Singapore. (Wikipedia, 2012) (Periodic Sentence) In a nutshell, I conclude that History has proven itself more than deserving of its place as a useful subject in education system around the world, for it is able to educate people both academically and more importantly, morally, a feat that not many subjects can lay claim to. (Cumulative Sentence)

History books today are flooded with pointless tasks for memorization, which is just an easy fix to get students a good grade on a test, without them actually retaining the information in the chapter. Not being properly educated on past events gives the future more opportunity for mistakes, considering they will not be able to compare past and present problems in hopes to not make the same mistakes again. It is easy for students to brush off this information because it is taught in such a matter of fact sort of way, not showing any passion, just information does not make a person interested in a subject. When a student can have actual feelings regarding an event, that is when it sticks. When they can really understand what is going on, through real stories and encounters, they have a more thorough understanding of the world and are better prepared to participate in…

While sitting in history class listening to my instructor’s normal lecture of American history one day, I take to notice a few of my classmates sneakily texting, doodling in their textbook, picking at their nails…In general, not even trying to look like they are paying attention or remotely interested. Why this fails to surprise me is because most individuals find history bland. However, little did my peers know history isn't a burden of rocks on the memory, but a brilliant radiance on the soul. History is an important subject to understand the sacrifices and struggles people went through, and if we don't acknowledge our mistakes from the past, we will unquestionably repeat them.…

History is what shapes our daily lives. All the past events such as fights for justice and freedom make it possible to survive in today’s day and age. In the past many people were discriminated against because of the color of their skin while others were forced and bullied to move off of their own premises just because others had that authority. A lot of history that is learned about and recognized is because of the works and writings available for us to read. Through literature we learn a lot of untold stories.…
