How History Shapes Our Lives
History is what shapes our daily lives. All the past events such as fights for justice and freedom make it possible to survive in today’s day and age. In the past many people were discriminated against because of the color of their skin while others were forced and bullied to move off of their own premises just because others had that authority. A lot of history that is learned about and recognized is because of the works and writings available for us to read. Through literature we learn a lot of untold stories. With literature we can learn about events from the past in more debt. It helps us understand and analyze what they felt and went through. In the poem Georgia 1838 we can learn how the Cherokees were forced out of their lands and “When the Cherokees refused to leave the state set up a lottery to rid them of their lands” he also speaks about how they were “roust from their tables and beds” and “stripped of everything they owned”. The “Trail of Tears” was a time in the past when there were ten million Native Americans on this continent when the first non-Indians arrived. Over the course of 300 years, almost all of the Native American original population was either wiped out by disease, famine, or warfare imported by the whites. They had to walk for months, days and years in seek of a new home and along the way many died due to different diseases and infections. They faced many obstacles on this journey with “dark clouds massing thunder splitting lightning forking” (The Trail page 11). These works of art help us better understand what the Native Americans were facing when they were being forced off the land not only by others but by nature. As they walked many were wounded, sick, a few new born babies has joined, and old men were at the point of death. They had no protection, no medication and nothing to save them. In the poem the crossing he says “I felt ill and sensed that cholera has set in” a disease given to him by the people who came and intruded on

“The past reminds us of timeless human truths and allows for the perpetuation of cultural traditions that can be nourishing; it contains examples of mistakes to avoid, preserves the memory of alternative ways of doing things and is the basis for self-understanding.” This quote by Bettina Drew well-explains how history is important to us as human beings. History helps us know what happened years ago. How it relates to us? Well, it helps us learn lessons by going back to the mistakes of our ancestors and learning from them. The youth these days are fast-paced and do not care about history because typically, most kids think that history is just simply a compilation of events that happened before. Most people simply don’t care because as we all say, ‘past is past’ and we shouldn’t dwell on it anymore. What they don’t know is that, by knowing your history, you get the idea on what kind of things happen for someone or something to appear as it is now. You wouldn’t know who you are if you don’t know who your mother came from, now would…

It is crazy to think about how different times are now than what they were in ancient times. But even back then things were very diverse. For example, Athens and Han China were like night and day. What is History? Is it purely stories handed down from generation to generation or is it simply the things we read about in history books? Is the history described in books today precise or has the whole truth been Throughout the course of history, there have been many events and stories that have been told and handed down from generation to generation gradually giving the current age an understanding of the history that people have lived through. History comes from people with first hand accounts of the events that took place in the past and the stories that they tell others about their experiences. As seen in Gordon Parks’ “Speaking for the Past” and Thomas R. Partsch’s “March 16-18, 1968”, history is most often than not, told from the bottom up with a bias that provokes the reader to feel certain emotions about the story or history being told.…

“History cannot give us a program for the future, but it can give us a fuller understanding of ourselves, and of our common humanity, so that we can better face the future” -Robert Penn Warren. History is the analysis and interpretation of the human past that enables us to study continuity and change over time. If it wasn’t for the study of our nation’s past there would be no way to identify the American identity. The study of the world’s history shows the contrast between the past and present, making it clear what the American identity believes and stands for. History is a device used to understand our personal opinions, beliefs, culture and religion. The study of our world’s history has helped us to understand the change the World has been through to get to where it is today. Society, beliefs, technology, and freedoms are just some examples of what has changed drastically in our history; the knowledge of how these things have evolved is a major tool used to improve the future. The reason why the earth is warming in modern time and we take the blame is because we release gasses from burning fossil-fuels. They may take a while to affect the atmosphere but slowly they get up in atmosphere and trap more and more heat. Every day more and more creatures are becoming extinct and glaciers are melting sea levels are going up but yet this is not the first time the earth has faced such changes believe it or not. Neanderthals were the first Europeans on the continent. They occupied the continent about 300,000 to 400,000 years ago then perished 28,000 years ago. The Neanderthals had the bodies they could handle the bitter cold a lot better than we can they could. Their bodies adapted and coped with the ice age which affected Europe for most of the time they were around. Their bodies we far more suited for the cold then our they had frames were stocky with short limbs which conserved heat their noses were large and flared to warm the cold air they had to breath in. No matter how adapted the Neanderthals were to the cold they had to deal with sudden periods of warming and even on a very rear occasions sub-tropical environment. Even though Homo sapiens have only been around for a fraction of the time that the Neanderthal lived in Europe they must have been well adapted to their world. The Neanderthal would believe that the clothes you were or the ring on your finger the car that you drive it was all unfathomable. That’s why there is only a very small hint of the Neanderthals art. Art to the Neanderthals always represents something else but much a stone was sculpted and decorated it remained just a stone. The Neanderthals did start to wear jewelry but it was just last of them and they only did that to copay with their new neighbors. There new neighbors are from about 40,000 years ago they were modern humans they are us. The Neanderthals were big meat eaters and their choice cuts came from big animals. Some of the big animals they hunted were Mammoths,…
