In the last few years our culture has dramatically changed. We have gone from kids playing outside all day till the streetlights turned on to now surfing the internet alone at home. We know that physical activity is important to our health. Physical education helps our children improve their knowledge on health and lead them to practices that will benefit their future wellbeing. Some schools do not require students to participate in physical education classes; they don’t seem to realize how important it is for kids to be physically active. The sudden rise in obesity in young children has become a great concern in America. Physical education should be required every year for all public school students. Schools require students to attend their classes for about six hours every week day. They go from class to class taking a test or being assigned more homework, it becomes a bit stressful and exhausting. Students need the mental break that a physical education class can give them. Being physically active during the day helps keep students focused during their academic classes and helps relieve some of their stress with the release of endorphins. It has also been scientifically proven that kids who are active daily do better in school, sleep better and reduce stress in their everyday lives. As well as doing better in school, physical education helps prepare students for a healthier future. If the student decides to engage in a physical program or a sport students learn from their physical education class the importance of warming up and stretching. Stretching helps in developing overall flexibility. They also learn that the kind of stretching depends on the type of activity a person plans to engage in. The stretching should mimic the movements of the activity. If a student is not required to participate in gym class they may not learn that the warm ups help prevent them from sustain injuries.
