1.1 Explain why physical activity is important to the short and long term health and well being of children

Physical activity is very important to short and long term health and well being of children.

In short term physical activity it helps the children to build up their muscles, develop their skeletal frame and develops the heart and function, it also helps to prevent obesity in children. If children get enough physical activity during the day can help children to get to sleep easier and for a longer period of time.

The outdoor environment helps the well being of children, because it makes it makes them feel free which will help their emotional and social development, because it allows them to develop their confidence and to learn new skills.

Long term physical activity helps the children to become interested in sports and outdoor activities it also helps them with controlling their weight it also prevents obesity. "A recent study found that teenagers who carry a gene for obesity are less likely to become overweight or obese if they are physically active for an hour a day" ( Meggit, 2011, P428).

Physical activity in the long term health can increase bone density in children and helping to maintain strong bones in young people, it also slows down degeneration in later life. It also reduces blood pressure, and the risk of diabetes, keeping active can help Lower the risks of children and young people developing type 2 diabetes later on in life.

Children and young people who are physically active have improved psychological well being, from this they gain self confidence and they have a high self esteem.
