He was abandoned by his mother at a young age and raised by his grandmother who only paid him little attention. Finding the positive light in his misfortune, he turned his hard childhood into material for his comedy and by the late 1980s was already successful. At first he started small and did shows in club all throughout the continental United States, but slowly began his incline into television.
He would appear in sporadic shows and comedy special, appearing in his first movie in 1990.In 2002, he began starring in his comedy series, George Lopez, that was partially based off some of his real experiences. But Lopez didn’t only stop at the movies; he dominated the comedy world in general. He bounced back just fine and is now a frequent spokesperson at events for the National Kidney Foundation. Even after the surgery, Lopez jumped right back into his work and began his ever increasing climb to the top. Since then, he has become regarded as a top ranking comedian and has won several awards and honors for his hours of time and effort towards his job and work.
In 2003, he graciously received the Latino Spirit Award for Excellence in Television, only adding to the victories in his long and difficult career. There have been many great honors that he has since been given, making his name known well among all of America.
In 2005 George Lopez was humbly surprised as he was named one of the ‘Top 25 Hispanics in America’ in Time magazine. Making it in that magazine is the thing most stars dream of, solidifying Lopez as a monumental role model for the Mexican-American communities throughout the world. In recent years, though, his life has domesticated more and we are slowly seeing less and less of his stand up humor as he settles
