GFS Reflection
In terms of my high school experience, I am looking for a school that will assist me in the further development of collaborative as well as independent studies. GFS seems to have all of these qualities. For example, when I visited GFS I saw a community that is always supportive of any goal that a student might have in life and provide a foundation for that goal to be realized while also inspiring excellence in everything else that a student might become involved during high school years. I play lacrosse, compete in diving, and am an active dancer. GFS has an excellent lacrosse team which can help support me in terms of going forward in the goal to become a better lacrosse player while still pushing me to do the best I can in all of my other

From working on these three assignments over the past few weeks, I learned a great deal of information dealing with some issues pertaining to both One-Mile and the Chico Co-op. From doing research on One-Mile, I learned that there are a lot of problems concerning the homeless issue and cleanliness of the park. The issues dealing with the Co-op were mostly centered around their relocation situation. At the moment, relocation is the Co-op’s main goal but they are experiencing problems with finding the ideal, sustainable location that will keep their users satisfied. Finding out the specifics of these problems was quite challenging. I had to look into each source even further to find more information with both place’s problems. The research methods…

During my first year at Florida State University I plan to grow as an individual. To achieve this is not only important to fill in your head with loads of knowledge, but also to see other cultures, meet new people, discover myself, discover my weaker and/or stronger points, and squeeze my stronger abilities at my maximum to achieve my goals. I plan to help others as much as I’ve been doing until now, or even more. I believe in creating a better atmosphere where peers help each other in whatever they need. I’ve been lucky spent almost sixteen years of my life in a school where they taught me to excel by working as a team. I plan to bring these philosophy to FSU because if instead of competing with one another, we bring what we are best at to…

The college that I decided to research is called Florida International University or FIU for short. I feel like this college is appropriate for me because many of the amenities available fit my liking. The school has a very large campus and plenty of students to make new friends with, and is located in the heart of Florida. Florida’s weather is similar to Arizona’s, with the exception of humidity, making it feel just like home. There are many extracurricular activities at this college such as sororities and fraternities, a radio station, student council, and much more to keep me busy outside of my studies. This college also has a minimum GPA of 3.4 or greater, allowing me to be surrounded by students who value their education just as much as I do. I think FIU would be a great college for me to consider applying to because it has much of what I look for including size, location, academic and extracurricular programs.…

My client currently receives cognitive behavioral therapy, however, how we can we assist her to change the way that she thinks, when her each day of her life is filled with a negative encounter? Cognitive behavioral therapy alone is not enough, this client and other clients like her need for trauma sensitive information, and family issues to be addressed. If the family does not know how to express themselves, or have never grieved or coped with recent losses or instances, then TF-CBT would be able to assist with building and utilizing appropriate coping skills, and with learning about how to grieve appropriately. This type of therapy aims to teach the children and families how to deal with their problems appropriately and to get them to accept…

As I develop as a leader, I plan on participating in different activities and events at UNCG. I would like to take advantage of the leadership skills I currently have by reigniting my passion for events I participated in at my high school. I would like to participate in student government, homecoming, dance, and other activities of my interest. Additionally, community service is an important function towards my daily functions. Just as I was involved in my community as well as its surrounding communities, I plan to adopt Greensboro by being hands-on with community improvement, citizen edification, and youth guidance. I would like to be an example to the youth of Greensboro by volunteering to participate in events that target young males. Also, I would like to participate in the upliftment of Greensboro environmentally and socially by partnering with programs that focus on the community and citizens in need located in Greensboro. Humility and compassion are important traits when it comes to executing these contributions and I believe that my character includes those factors. I want to be a leader in this area, not just an attendant. Greensboro’s energy and aspiration metaphorically flows through the city. In recognition of this, I want to be heavily involved in this dynamic community. As stated, this scholarship sets great students…

For me, one of the biggest issues that I face is trying to remember to remain realistic throughout my coursework at GCU. This is because I am one of those people who naturally tries to bite of more than I can chew simply because I want to try to get ahead. However as the chapter said, being unrealistic about what you wish to get accomplished is often detrimental to the student since it often results in student's submitting subpar work. Additionally one thing that was not mentioned was that it also can hurt the motivation of students since they will make some unrealistic goal and when they do not accomplish it then they feel defeated. This will be my biggest challenge, although it will be something that I can overcome since the GCU material…

Over the course of Quarter, I composed more than a few FRQs. Throughout my many in-class essays, I learned not only about rhetorical analysis, but also some tendencies I have as a writer. In all four of my essays, the most prominent trend I exemplified was a lack of focus on certain pieces of my analysis. Often, I would provide a strong analysis of certain evidence, but then would begin to stray from my original point. Occasionally, my sentences proved nothing, such as when I wrote that, “This major depiction of the two vastly different sides of the soldier’s lives makes the men seem more real and human”. Another pattern that was prevalent in my FRQs was writing one or two sentences that seemed clumsy or awkward to the reader. One such sentence…

As a future student of IUPUI I am wanting to learn independence and teamwork. I want to be able to have hands on experience that I was unable to obtain during high school. Going to an actual college will allow me to be able to be with others, who take their work seriously and want to be at the college. Challenges I have had over my high school year has made it difficult to be attentive and made it where I had to go from school to school. Raised in a bad situation, caused me to have to move to two different high schools. This consequently caused me to fall behind miss school and lose my way of transportation to and from school. The school however helped me out with a ride and this made it possible to get back in fourth. While all this happened, fortunately I was able to join a Medical Assisting program at Central Nine, which has taught me the basics of nursing and learning about the human anatomy.…

In the end, I settled on Macalester College, a small liberal-arts school in Minnesota with a strong emphasis on internationalism and social action. It is certainly more mainstream than most of the schools that began my college search, but it is also intimate enough that I wouldn’t be able to slip through many cracks; it is located in a sizable metropolitan area where my learning would not be defined exclusively by campus boundaries; it is a place where hard questions are encouraged and expected; and its classes and dorms are well-represented by a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. In hindsight, it was as good of a choice as any I could have made.…

In the third chapter of City Lights: Urban-Suburban Life in the Global Society, the author discusses the "romance of science", how we build hypotheses and conduct research and how ideologies and values form our way of thinking. This chapter is important as it challenges the reader to think more analytically and to challenge ideas they may already have formed. "As the late astronomer Carl Sagan put it, 'skeptical scrutiny is the means, in...science...by which deep insights can be winnowed from deep nonsense...'" (page 74). By constantly challenging ideas and uncovering new research to test theories, one can further pass information down from generation to generation. Also, by using proper scientific methods we can separate fact from fiction and better understand new ideas.…
