Friendship In Rodman Philbrick's Freak The Mighty
In the new book that my class and I have been reading, Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, the relationship between two friends is very strong. Max and Freak, are the main characters in the story and they are the best of friends maybe because they know how to help each other and have a great time together. Freak moves into the house next to Max’s , and Max does not know how to feel about Freak at first. Then they talk more and they grew into friends very quickly. They solve mysteries, go in “quests”, and solve problems no one was able to solve before. In this story, Freak and Max have become friends very quickly and they are always together, at school, at home, and even when they are doing things with their families. From how Max puts it, he never had a brain until Freak came along. Freak is a genius yet small, but Max calls himself dumb and giant, so they make the smartest, biggest being together. Freak helps Max with everything that has to do with school and learning, and Max helps Freak get around …show more content…
I think this because he accepted Freak for who he really is inside and outside, he persevered by learning how to read and not giving up with Freak’s guidance. He is cooperating because he works together with Freak and helps him with what he needs. If Freak were to have three LUCYS, in my opinion he would have solve problems, share, and strength. He would have solve problems because he can have a problem and solve it very quickly in his mind. For example, when Max was running with Freak on his shoulders, Freak was planning in his head where to go. He would have share because he shares his ideas and his talents with Max when he is helping him with reading. Finally Freak would have strength because when Max and Freak are together and there is a problem, Freak takes charge, knows exactly what to do, and is the verbal protector of Max when Max is being picked

While these similarities show what these pieces have incommon Freak the Mighty and The Mighty still have differences that make them distinctive. Although the characters have the same names, I have got to say there appearance was definitely incorrect. In the book Max was said to be 7 feet tall, while Kevin was said to be 2 feet tall. In the movie Max was about 6 feet and Kevin was the height of an average 6th grader at Eldorado K-8 ( about 4”6’). Kevin was supposed to have blond hair and blue eyes ( the movie gave him brown eyes and brown hair) while Maxes appearance was not clear in the book. Additionally, in the book, Kevin and Max seemingly lived in suburbia while the movie gave the impression they lived in much more of a city. For example, the old testaments seemed much bigger and better-looking than described in the book ( broken toys and ragged and dirty children who seemed a little broken themselves). The minor problem in plot detail is a third difference. In the movie, Kevin is apparently Max’s LD…

In the book it states “ I just sort of reach down without think and pick up Freak and set him on my shoulders.” ( Philbrick 32 ). During this part of the book this part is included because it is a really important to the plot of the book. It is really important to the plot of the book because it is we're Freak the Mighty had started. It was the first time that Freak was riding on Max's shoulders. In the film this is also included because it is important to the plot of the book but also because this leads to an action based scene of the film were they are chased by Tony D. and his gang. The director kept this the same because without this part of the plot then the whole story would of changed. Freak would not be riding on his shoulders the whole book, they would of been caught by blade and his gang because Freak wouldn't of been able to see where all of them were coming from. Overall, although there are similarities and differences they are included for a reason. The major similarity is included because it is a very important part of the plot and a lot of the story would have been different if it were not…

Before Maxwell and Kevin became close friends, Max was known as an impulsive, violent, and unsafe individual because of his careless actions. Max had even said himself, “I had a way of saying things with my fists and my feet” confirming that he expressed his feelings quite physically. Nevertheless, when the boys became one as Freak the Mighty, it influenced the way Maxwell dealt with things. For example, he learned to control his temper and using his incredibly great speed and strength to protect his loved ones. In other words, he developed a skill to use his strengths rightfully. Furthermore, Freak constantly encouraged Maxwell to do well in his education. This helped Max overcome his negative mindset on how he was brainless and never attempted to try by using his Learning Disorder as an excuse.…
