Capturing the stages of a rose blooming within the art series is analogous to my growth as a writer, with each panel corresponding to each progressive year of high school. Freshman year is exemplified through a rose bud. Potential is there, but the writing overall is unpolished and juvenile. Analysis was surface level, syntax was unvaried, and word choice was uncreative. Improvements in grammar were made, but overall not much to write home about. This is most likely due to being in an Honors-level course freshman year, so receiving satisfactory grades did not require much effort, which led to little improvement. Sophomore year marked turning point, as indicated by the rose beginning to peak out from its bud. This was the year I was introduced

The title of this book is “Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie.” If the word “lie” from the title was meant to mean “lie down,” the title would be a play on words because you usually lie down when you sleep. So, they are saying that freshmen are too busy doing homework and other schoolwork to lie down and sleep peacefully. If the word “lie” means not telling the truth, then the title would be saying that freshmen who are sleeping never tell lies, which is obvious because you can’t talk when you’re asleep. Everyone loves the new kid in town. He’s unexpected, mysterious, and charming. In Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Charles Bingley and his entourage are the “new kids in town.” These unknown, wealthy strangers are the gossip around Longbourn. Eagles is a rock band that formed in the 1970s that released a song called “New Kid in Town” in 1976. Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

In almost every English class, the transition from midterm to final term is not quite easy. In this class final term, ENG 121, I have practiced my writing skills continuously with the process and writing from analysis of printed ad to the complicated argumentative essay. I have found that the final was more complicated even though the idea and the processes in the midterm had a great help in the processes and writing in the second term writings. For instance, the idea of finding or creating a topic sentence, developing details, and reasoning and concluding the essay were part of the things that had a great help for the final semester.…
