Food Habits Assignment

The aim of this essay is to try and explain my food choices through three unique surveys that I have filled in, these being “Food and diet questionnaire”, “24hour recall questionnaire and a food variety survey”. These surveys will be affected by personal background which includes the following details:
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Nationality: Australian
Postcode: 3125
Living arrangements: Share house with 3 housemates
Religion: Christian
Study Commitments: Full time university student
Cultural group: Anglo-Australian
Language spoken at home: English
Through these details I am going to explain why my own personal eating habits occur and ways I can work to improve them.

1/ I do my own shopping and cook my own meals and so I am able to eat the foods that I enjoy and avoid foods which I do not. This would change if I did not do my own shopping or cook my own meals and would force me to eat things that I may not like or things that I would not make for myself as I only cook for one person and only make a small quantity of food which some meals do not allow for. Also due to being a university student I only have limited amount of money to spend on foods and this limits my variety of foods which I buy and eat. This could change if I was not making my own meals because not only could they have a different variety of foods that they enjoy but may also have a larger budget to spend on their food which means they could buy things that because I only have a small budget cannot afford to buy for myself.

2/ If the amount of money I had to spend on food each week doubled this would affect the foods I eat because it would allow me to eat foods which were more expensive to buy or of a higher quality and could not otherwise enjoy without the extra money. This would mean I would be indulging in a larger variety of foods. It would also allow me to eat out at restaurants more frequently and spend more money one things such as alcohol which without I

In order to better understand how food reveals these different truths about our food preferences, Allen says, “it is good to consider that you are the product of multiple food histories” (Harvard Press, 2012). These histories help us to consciously and unconsciously shape our food preferences. Our own personal experiences as we grow and develop in our lives cultural environment, biological history, and evolutionary history all play a huge part in this mental process. Our family and the culture that we grow up in helps to shape what is acceptable and not acceptable food choices.…

Also, these articles proved that the two behaviors I wanted to change go hand in hand with one another. When I first started this project, I noticed I wasn’t taking it as seriously become change doesn’t happen overnight. However, about two days after vowing to start, I began meal prepping to eat when there is down time between my classes. These meals or snacks consisted on whole apples, fruit salads, home cooked rice and chicken, and occasionally a whole-wheat sandwich. Although, there were somedays I forgot to pack my lunches which forced me to drink 16 oz of water to curve my cravings. Moreover, on days I failed to pack my lunch and water plagued a huge set back in my progress. During these times, I took a couple trips to In N Out and other fast food joints. Even though I knew how tired and heavy I would feel after eating a greasy meal, it became a much easier routine. As time went on and I ran into the same mishap, I found myself proudly driving past fast food restaurants and overjoyed when purchasing a fresh Sprouts vegetable salad or protein…

    • 8 Pages

The female athlete triad is a health condition in which active women experience three inter-related disorders due to unhealthy body weight and eating habits. In the case of the triad, the word active refers to females who display moderate to high intensity levels of performance. The rate of performance must be high in order to counterbalance the decrease in calorie intake. Females who perform at a high intensity are at risk for the triad since they do not take in enough calories to fulfill the amount expended. The three disorders within the female athlete triad are osteoporosis, disordered eating, and menstrual dysfunction. Not all females experience all three of the conditions, however new data has indicated that even having one or two elements of the triad can greatly increase a female’s long term morbidity and mortality rate (6). Adolescent girls and women are the two categories who are mainly affected by the triad. The causation of this disorder is mainly due to the pressure placed on these females to maintain a slim body image in order to enhance their sports performance. The female athlete triad does not only affect elite athletes, it also affects active women and girls participating in physical activities. If females compete at elite levels and do not consume the adequate amounts of calories, vitamins, and/or water, then they will develop the female athlete triad.…

I would describe my current eating habits as poor and unhealthy eating habits. Sometimes I eat healthy, but I noticed I will probably eat once a day and it will probably be something light. Sometimes I will let my insecurities take over my eating habits because I think I’m eating too much or gaining weight. Even though I barely eat I still cook for my son because I do not want him picking up on my bad eating habits. When I do cook for him I make sure I cook two vegetables and a meat for him. My son is very picky, but he is getting better with his eating habits as the days go by. We like to eat more breakfast foods than anything. Every morning I make sure I cook my son breakfast and have dinner ready after school. My eating habits depends on my busy schedule.…
