In 1971, a husband and wife, Aden and Marjorie Meinel, patented an idea to produce solar panels in the Mojave Desert. The solar panels they proposed were to stretch through the Mojave Desert for 5,000 miles and would collect 1,000,000 megawatts of electrical power. The electrical energy would then be stored in a manufacturing facility locally so that the solar energy could be converted and used by millions of people. The Meinel’s proposal was dismissed in the 1970’s, but recently, solar panel plants have begun to sprout in the Mojave Desert. There are currently fourteen pending solar projects that have been proposed to be built in the Mojave Desert. There are also currently already four solar plants built there.…

Availability of fossil fuels is a considerable factor when dealing with various energy sources. Coal is non-renewable and it is estimated that at least 40% of the world’s electricity comes from coal, and in 2005 Coal power produced 49.7% of the United State’s electricity supply. The consumption of coal is expected to increase 71% between 2004 and 2030, highly motivated by developing countries that use coal to generate about 75% of their power. There are limited stocks of coal remaining, they will be entirely depleted this millennium if we continue to burn coal in the future at the same rate we are today. Solar energy, on the other hand requires the use of the sun which is renewable and will potentially never run out regardless of how much it is used. Therefore, solar energy seems to be the better choice.…

Canadian Solar which is a traded solar cell and module manufacturer has experienced recent strong growth. Despite 2009 fluctuations in the solar industry namely for PV technology, the growth has been fuelled by Government incentives programs to encourage solar PV technology. The Solar industry is now highly competitive and companies follow an industrial organizational model. This is because they all compete mainly in PV technology, and this market is hinged on Government initiatives and renewable support schemes. Also, the international markets such as Spain (FIT) and Germany ( EEG law) influenced the companies ' strategy in terms of rates changes, over supply in 2009 among others.…

First Solar was founded in 1999 from the Walton family. According to the Marketing Sun Power, First Solar’s mission is “to create enduring value by enabling a world powered by clean, affordable solar electricity.” (p. 90) The company manufactures solar modules, which have razor-thin cadmium telluride. They are manufactured this way because it can still produce electricity even when clouds are blocking the sun. With this product First Solar wants to promote that it is socially responsible. It not only markets its cost efficiency through solar energy, but it also helps maintain sustainability by reducing the use of fossil fuel. First Solar products have advantages with rival companies because its product does not depend on silicon wafers. Silicon wafers is the preferred product from other solar companies. Silicon wafers is a costly product and it’s also a scarce resource.…

Solar photovoltaic power market in Japan is the largest solar power market during 2013 and is expected to continue be the world largest solar power market until 2016. The demand for solar power has accelerated after the introduction of feed in tariff, which is considered as very high, along with the shutdown of last operational nuclear power plant. This has create a huge opportunity for global supplier of photovoltaic module and cell in Japan. However domestic supplier of photovoltaic module and cell is expected to dominate the Japan solar power market mainly due to the fact that consumers of Japan prefers domestic brand. Due to huge gas in supply and demand, manufacturer of photovoltaic module and cell in Japan are also turning towards foreign manufacturer so that they can import the module and cell and then sell in Japan under their own domestic brand name.…
