Solar photovoltaic power market in Japan is the largest solar power market during 2013 and is expected to continue be the world largest solar power market until 2016. The demand for solar power has accelerated after the introduction of feed in tariff, which is considered as very high, along with the shutdown of last operational nuclear power plant. This has create a huge opportunity for global supplier of photovoltaic module and cell in Japan. However domestic supplier of photovoltaic module and cell is expected to dominate the Japan solar power market mainly due to the fact that consumers of Japan prefers domestic brand. Due to huge gas in supply and demand, manufacturer of photovoltaic module and cell in Japan are also turning towards foreign manufacturer so that they can import the module and cell and then sell in Japan under their own domestic brand name.

Solar photovoltaic market in Japan involves three type of photovoltaic module and cell, which includes mono crystal silicon, poly crystal silicon and thin film crystal. These photovoltaic module and cell are basically installed in residential sector as well as in non-residential sector, where as few of the photovoltaic module and cell is exported by Japan. In order to meet the growing demand of solar power, currently much of the photovoltaic module and cell are imported while rest is meet by the domestic players of Japan.

Major driving factor for the solar photovoltaic market in Japan, includes shutdown of nuclear power plant, introduction of feed in tariff mechanism, ALLOWANCE of project of 10 Kw to 1000 Kw on industrial rooftop and on idle land, and shift of government focus toward renewable energy. Market restraint includes systems cost, shortage of trained labour, entry of foreign players for solar power energy, and inadequate capacity of grid to feed renewable energy.
