“The right good book is always a book of travel; it is about a life’s journey.” This quote was written by H.M. Tomlinson. This quote means that the proper story is all the time a book about advancements; it is about personal growth. I agree with the interpretation because in all good books people change and mature. One work of literature that I have read which relates to the quote is the book Holes by Louis Sachar. Another book that supports the quote is the book, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers.
The first example is from the story, Holes. The main character, Stanley III, steals a water truck to help his friend, Zero, but fails. Stanley Yelnats the third has a family who is cursed because of the original Stanley Yelnats back in the old days. Stanley Yelnats the third was sent to Camp Green Lake after he was accused of stealing a famous baseball player’s shoes from a homeless shelter. Stanley continued to dig holes at Camp Green Lake until he came across a mysterious lipstick tube, which led to new discoveries. Stanley is a boy who lacked confidence. He had always let himself get bullied around. When Stanley stole a water truck to help Zero, he demonstrated that he had gained self-confidence. For the remainder of the novel, he continued to show self-confidence as he advanced in his life. This example about Stanley supports my interpretation of the critical lens quote.
